To me and My wife: YES, I use an automatic control on/off (purchased at Walmart store/Electronict dept) at night, so it turns-on 1.5 hrs and off 1.0 hrs continuesly till 6.00 am- Try it

It is loud as a train! The low setting sounds about as bad as the high setting. I will be returning mine which sticks as i just spent all this time installing it.

I don&#39;t really notice it. I wouldn&#39;t say it was loud or completely silent. It is definitely quieter than the box fan i had before it. on a scale of 1 (completely silent) to 10 (very loud) i&#39;d rate it a 3.

9.7 EER, The weight listed on the original box is 44lbs total; box, packing materials, and the unit. I believe the complete unit by itself is 42lbs.

This GE window AC unit is doing its job very well during a heat wave here in Michigan. My husband and I have it installed in our bedroom, which used to be stifling hot. It cools that room nicely, and helps cool adjacent areas as well.
It was easy to install. The controls are very simple and basic, which is perfect for this application. No fancy digital display, no remote, just a couple of manually operated dials for the fan and the level of cooling desired. However, it's not precise by any means. It doesn't have a temperature setting; you just get used to which settings on the dial do the trick for your room. Very basic, very old-fashioned. A bargain for the $100 we paid for it.
