I haven't seen the swing in person but, after reading the reviews I would guess it's a little on the purple side. Several people commented on the color and one even took it back because of it's purple tint.

it would definitely work for a girl. it is more purple-y than blue... and definitely appropriate for both sexes! :)

The swing is a purply-blue in a blue/cool toned room and at night. In a warm toned room and during the day it is purple.

I got this for my daughter because the pink one hadn't come out yet, but I liked that it was a neutral color, and not loud like the rainforest one. The gingham is more periwinkle, and the pillow is more blue, along with the mobile and light enclosure. The stars and coloring let this swing go for a girl or boy, and my daughter just loves it! I've gotten so many compliments on how nice it is also. I don't think it is purple by any means though.

this swing is perfect for a little girl, especially for those moms who dread the thought of an all pink nursery. i got this for my son thinking it was blue but when i opened it sure enough it was mostly VERY purple. there is some light blue, but it is definitely a swing for a girl, i had to return mine.

This swing has both purple and blue in it. The colors blend nicely, making a nice nuetral swing that can be used for a boy or girl. I will personally put a little girl or little boy in it. I guess it depends how picky you are. It is a perwinkle purple and not like lilac and even my husband feels this swing would suit a boy just fine. We are having a girl but wanted a swing that would suit either gender so we can use the swing again if we have a boy. I was unsure when I bought this if I would like it but I am pleased with the colors and am not that picky about it. Now, I wouldn't use it for a boy if it was all purple so maybe that helps.

I'm not sure why a review or two says that the product is misrepresented b/c of the color. The title of the item says 'Periwinkle'...thats the color of the item! Also, screen colors of your computer will affect the way you see the color in the item picture...

It is sort of blue and yellow. The blue is a little on the purple side but not by much.

I bought it for my daughter. The one that I purchased I thought had "blue" but I believe it's a VERY VERY light shade of blue and there's not much blue on it. Mostly cream. I think it is appropriate for my girl.

periwinkle is a purlplish baby bluish color- more on the purple side but not quite lavendar-- i say its unisex

yes this swing goes front to back and side to side... not sure which swing is better, as I only have experience with the starlight papasan cradle swing... but i can tell u i love it, and my son, once he got used to not being in my arms all the time loves it now as well.

This one also goes from a traditional swing to a cradle swing. Which was awesome. My daughter loved the side to side motion, but you'd think she was being tortured when I had it go front to back. I dont know anyone who has the little lamb swing, I almost thought about buying it myself. but this one does have the lightshow and canopy, plus all the music and sound features, and the mobile, and FYI, the toys can come off. As my daughter got older she used to carry the star and the teddy bear with her everywhere. This product is also unisexed. Its fantastic, I swear by this product

Yes, it swings both front to back in a traditional swing style, and side to side in the cradle swing style.

Honestly, I consider this swing the better of the two because of the option to run it from the AC adapter, rather than using (and constantly buying and replacing) 4 D batteries.

Yes, it swings back and forth AND side to side. you can also move it to the half positions to make it swing back and forth with a little side to side motion too. pretty neat.

Yes, it has a button on the front that can turn the seat in two different directions making it swing side to side or front to back. I use it front to back the most b/c my son kicks a lot.

yes- side to side and back and forth- you push in the red thing at the top that has the two arrows on it and push swing to face going back and forth or side to side

On the back of the swing there a plastic thing on both sides of the medal bar. All you do is grab that and push it together and pull it down or push it up.

Underneath the seat you squeeze the plastic piece together and push up ward.

There is a thing in the back of the chair that has "ridges" or "raised dots" that you squeeze together and push the chair to either sit upright or recline. I hope this is helpful.

Sqeeze the cream "L" shaped piece in the back of the swing and move the chair up and down with your other hand.

There is an area behind the seat that you can squeeze and it will recline or sit up. Looks like two little squares that are perpendicular to the seat.

there is a bumpy plastic thing that you pinch together at the back of the swing(where the metal pipe goes into the swing seat) -- you pinch it and at the same time push up or down on the swing for recline adjustment
