After looking on the Bissell site the 6585 & 6596 are the same vacuum & this filter did not fit my 6585.

No, it does NOT! And Bissell never heard of this model number for the filter, 6046!

it does not fit that vacuum even though it is listed on the side of the box as one of the compatible models. I am having problems finding one that fits as well. mother in law washed the filter, put it back in the vacuum wet and left it to mold and stink.

This product fits my vacuum. Wish it had a circular foam pad, too, as was the case with my original  filter. Not too bad for the price. Febreze helps with the "smell" in the room.

We could not find these any longer at our local store, so we were happy to get them online. We have very old carpet which tends to make our vacuum smell musty and dirty. These filters not only keep the vacuum from smelling up the closet, but the room smells nice after the vacuum runs. Moms-great way to tell if the kids really did their job! The filters are washable and have retained their scent for over a year.

Love the smell but I wish it was a little stronger like the filter for my last vacuum, granted that filter was much larger. Will definitely buy again.

Smells as good as it works.

I took a pair of needle nose pliers and (working my way around) GENTLY snapped off the bottom outer ring, so the filter would fit into the plastic filter cup on my Bissell vacuum. Now it works like a charm!   I hope this helps you folks!

MAKING THE FILTER FIT!

I really like the fact that you can add fragrance without putting anything on your carpet.

Good Product

It is virtually impossible to find a replacement filter now for the "Bissell Powerforce Turbo Helix Bagless Vacuum, 68C71", sold at WalMart. None of the newer model filters work, regardless of the brand. They all claim to be compatible, but each is designed with a slightly different top, and none actually fit inside the unit correctly. This is the only one I have been able to find that will fit properly. The downside of course, is the obnoxious, nauseating odor put out by the Febreze pellets stuffed inside the filter. I had to remove them, then let it air out for a few weeks, before I was able to use it. Nothing screams, "hey, I'm trying to distract you from some other disgusting odor" like the smell of Febreze! But, as I said, there are limited options out there if you have this model vac, and want/need to replace the filter. It's very frustrating!

Better than nothing ...

This filter does not fit my Bissell Powerforce Bagless Turbo model 6596. It says on the packaging that it fits that model but the plastic ring around the bottom of the filter is too wide to accommodate the dirt container grooves in which the filter is to lock in place. You can tell when comparing to my existing filter the bottom of the filter is different. Filter smells really good but cannot be used and I will be returning. Frustrating.
