Yes, it works with ice and frozen fruit. I made a milkshake with ice but it didn't thicken up as my old Oster. But try it.

I normally use frozen fruits, but sometimes I use ice...It just goes through them like there is no tomorrow...

My experience was it didn't even puree canned white beans and a couple of cups of chicken broth! So, I am skeptical of this unit's ability to crush ice.

I just bought one of these blenders, and the first thing I made was a smoothie comprised of 1 cup of frozen berry blend, 1/2 cup of water, and 1/4 cup of yogurt. The blender made a fantastic (very thick) smoothie.

If someone is having a problem blending frozen fruit, perhaps they are using the wrong setting. Following the instructions in the manual, I used the 'med' setting, and just let it do the variable speed blending and automatically turn off.

I can see that if you used the pulse button, or the wrong low/med/high button on ice, it might not work. (I haven't checked the instruction manual for chipping plain ice; most of the frozen drink options used the 'med' button.)

You have to firmly grasp the base and turn it counter clockwise to unscrew it from the large pitcher. The isntructions are a good reference.

how can i detach the blade from the jar and use it with the cup

It's the biggest glass jar I've ever seen on a blender. I'm guessing 40 ounces but it could be bigger.

How big is "large" glass jar on this blender....I am surprised they didn't specify the size of the blender jar

I was going to buy a Nutribullet to make green smoothies with, but the cost was prohibitive. I found this blender on line and really liked its looks. The price was right, too. I ordered it "site-to-store and picked it up with no difficulty the next day.
This blender works great, and looks good on the counter, too. It is very powerful and pulverizes the chopped fruit and veggies perfectly. It has an interesting feature that causes it to automatically slow down to let the veggies settle to the bottom, then speed up again so that everything is equally mixed. The only down side is that on the super high setting it vibrates so much that it will move on your countertop, you have to hold on to it. Other than that, I am very happy with my purchase.

Perfect for our needs.

I have had this blender now for 7 months and have loved it for making smoothies every morning! But I am even more impressed now that I had the plastic base ring crack and when I could not find a part online I called the phone number on the base unit and they told me to take the entire blender back to my local wal-mart (did not need box or receipt just all the parts) to get an entire new blender as it was still under the 2 year warranty and they could not find a reference for this replacement part. I have to say this really impressed me!

I have owned this blender for a couple of weeks now. I bought this blender to make Smoothies and it is perfect. It does a great job of chopping everything up and it never leaves chunks of food behind. It is really easy to use. Just push one of the buttons and it does the rest. It increases and decreases speed to get everything down off of the sides of the blender so you never have to scrape the sides. It also stops on its own when it is done with the cycle you have chosen. It is the best blender I have owned. I would definately recommend it.

Great Blender for Smoothies

this Farberware blender is an incredibl value for just under $40. Makes a quick drink with carrots and unpealed apple slices. It leaves no sizeable apple pealings or chunks of carrots. This great blender has metal drive parts, a glass pitcher & a powerful 800 Watt motor. I researched a lot before we decided to buy this Farberware "Workhorse".

Great blender for makeing smoothies

I have had the blender for a couple of weeks and have used it for everything from making milkshakes to grinding whole oats into fine baby food cereal. This blender more than meets my needs for power and speed and I'm very happy with it.

Very Versatile Blender

I have recently begun juicing & drinking smoothies. As I cannot yet afford a juicer or vita-mix, I liked the reviews for this blender. I also liked the features. I have used this every day since my purchase. It does a great job on everything I put in it. I've put large pieces of frozen fruit, fresh spinach, ice cubes, fresh fruit &, at times, a mixture of fresh & frozen. It has always done a great job. I am very satisfied.

I am very pleased with this blender!

This blender performs as well as many of the more expensive models. It has a glass jar,which is much better than any kind of plastic. It also has preprogrammed speed algorithms, which make the blending process an easy start it and walk away process. The blender turns itself off when the algorithm has completed. The only flaw I have found is that the blender has started to leak a bit around the chopping blade rotor shaft after 6 months of use. Make sure that you do not put the blade mechanism in the dishwasher or allow moisture to accumulate on it - the shaft and gear will start to rust and eventually leak.

Great blender for the price

Very easy to use. Large glass blender jar with hard rubber lid which stays put. I still haven't been able to remove the jar from the blade assembly in order to use the travel cup. The jar could be made from a heat-proof glass (pyrex, etc.). The jar is heavy but fits into the base exactly with no room for error. The digital controls are easy to read and use. Overall, I like this unit.

This is the perfect blender for me. It's powerful enough for my smoothies and has a nice sized glass pitcher. After only one week however, the spindle that holds the blades and makes them turn was covered in rust. I scrubbed most of it off hoping to still use it, but the rust returned the next day.
I'm returning this tomorrow and going to spring for the extra money for a Ninja 3 in 1 Blender.
I wish that Farberware had made this cog out of a stainless steel of high enough quality that it wouldn't have rusted.

Cog spindle rusted out in ONE WEEK !

This blender is beautiful and powerful however, after very little use, the blades set that is made of low quality materials, oxidized contaminating the food with rust and started to leak. I wish Farberware had a solution for this problem because this blender had everything to be excellent but it became as useless as a car without the steering wheel. Travel cup leaks as well.
