I'm not sure which picture you're looking at but this particular unit has one shelf. I only have a light satellite TV box but the hardware appears study enough to hold 17 pounds.

Comes with just one shelf. You could proably put a dvd player ontop of a cable box if need be.

One shelf for this model. It's smoke-colored and sturdy. There is a two-shelf model. Read the online user's guide to determine shelf load limitations. Google the model and product name. For example, enter EMATIC EMD211 User's Guide or Manual" and look for the online PDF version of the guide.

There is only one shelf that is adjustable. It looks like several shelves but that's just the racks you can place the shelf on. You unscrew the shelf and lift it up or down to the next rack. Depending on how high you want it to be.

I don't believe this rack can hold more than one shelf. The way the shelf is screwed onto the rack on the wall, there wouldn't be enough room for a 2nd shelf.

I don't know where to get more shelves but if you can find them it will hold maybe 1-2 more.
The mounting bracket the screws to the wall and supports the shelf is about 7 inches tall so you have to take into consideration these things-
The support for the glass shelf is 1 inch tall (tapering to about 1/2" at the end.

Use the two-shelf model. It is not recommended to put more than one device (e.g., stacking them) on a single shelf. It's just plain dangerous.

You can add another unit with this unit to have a second shelf or add another shelf on one unit if the clearance under the first shelve meet your needs.

Yes- you could add another one above or below the shelf. I put my vhs and dvd player on the same shelf and it has been fine.
