press board which is sawdust and glue, and it smells. I had to put three caot of semi gloss paint on the boards so the smell would go away.

unpainted wood. probably fiberboard. Not overly attractive but you could paint them or cover them with contact paper/shelf liner if you wanted them fancier.

Man-made fiber board which you find used in a lot of shelves these days. Sufficiently strong and nice and flat. You could possibly cover them, if you wanted to, with some other material, shelf liners or thin linoleum. My rack sits in the garage, so it's perfectly fine as it came out of the box. Read my review for the rest of my comments.

The shelves are a particle board but strong. If they wear down after time I will simply replace with plywood.

I guess you would describe it as a particle board. They are VERY sturdy though!

no not all, two shelves are smaller than what I wanted and is pictured

Model number is URWM185BLK.  But I suggest you avoid this product.  It&#39;s a different version of the same-sized storage rack you can buy from Home Depot.  The Walmart version does not have parts that connect two vertical support posts that allow you to place the shelves at any location on the vertical support posts--and the particle wood shelves are not finished/painted which means you have to be very careful not to put anything wet/damp on the shelves.  The Walmart product is inferior in every way.  I would not buy it again.  You get what you pay for.  Look at other big-box stores for this shelf and make certain you check for the splicer-parts that hook the vertical supports together and make certain the shelves are finished.

Sorry due to liability reasons we do not offer extra shelves for this unit. This unit is rated and designed for 5 shelves.

If you can't find them, cutting them from a piece of partical board should be simple enough. :)

It is a hair bigger than 35.75 inches in front and 15.75 inches on the sides.

Unit is 36" wide, shelves are 35 29/32" wide in order to fit in the frame.

What is the "true" width of the whole unit put together? If the shelves themselves are 36" wide then the unit must be a bit more.

nice & solid, although a couple of the shelf's on the corners were broken a little. but the shelf's are made of press board. You can always replace those cheap press board shelf's if it get to bad.

Bought this as a tank stand for a 40 gal breeder tank, Set up only half with 3 shelves. Holds the tank study and fits perfectly as if it was made to hold it. Assembly took mere minutes didn't really need the enclosed instructions as its pretty self explanatory how to assemble it. Very sturdy and well worth the price.
