The footrests are swing away and also removable if you unfasten them from the frame of the chair.

With the exception of attaching the foot rests all you have to do is open the chair up. Foot rests are wrapped separately in the same box and simply snap into a place on the cair.

It's partially assembled in the box but it's really just a matter of snapping a few things together, no tools needed. I think it took longer to cut the box open than it did to put it together.

If you are looking for a truly portable wheelchair then this is the one. Just as description it is very lightweight and folds down small enough for my small Nissan car, and great for my disabled mother's trips to stores and doctors offices that she has difficulty walking into with a walker. She has another wheelchair which was too large and heavy for me to get in a car and this one is perfect.

Great for small car.

This "Drive" brand portable wheelchair is so great to take along for getting to and from various outings for persons with limited ability to walk only short distances. It is light weight (only 19 lbs.), compact, quickly unfolds for use, and folds back down extremely easy for storage. It fits very well into the trunk of my medium-size car. As a single woman, I was concerned I might have to ask someone to help me put it together. But to my surprise (and relief), the only thing I had to do was simply hook on the two swing-to-the side foot rests -- piece of cake!! Ordering it on line was quick and easy, the price was extremely competitive, and it was delivered right to my house 2 days earlier than was anticipated. I would give this experience and A++.

Great portable wheelchair to take along/good price

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] True light weight and super easy to fold and unfold and takes very little space for the trunk of the car. We have used it with my dad to the park, zoo, etc, but have not used for a real long distance trip involving airplane. I am quite confident now that this wheelchair will be a great tool!

Drive Medical ATC19-SL Deluxe Lightweight Transpor

This chair was purchased for my daughter who has MS. It is very easy to carry around and to store in my car. My daughter really likes it; she can push herself along with no trouble. My product arrived within two days of being shipped. I would recommend this wheelchair to anyone who is disabled.

Love the fact that my wife can lift it and put it in the car as the big wheel chair was just to heavy for her and this is a great transport chair while I heal up from foot surgery.

Positives: Price!! Preassembled and very lightweight. It is the perfect size to maneuver throughout an older home (with narrow entry ways). Easy to open and close. Downsides: wheel size makes rolling on plush carpet difficult. Footrests do not lock on and fall off when placing chair in car trunk. Wheel lock sticks

Great alternative to a wheelchair

I got this for my husband while he is recuperating with a broken ankle. He's not very stable on crutches and we like to go to the movies, out to dinner, etc. and this makes it really easy for me to push him around. This chair is good for people on the not-too-large size - he's about 5'11, 190lbs and it is fine but I think someone over 225lbs would have a tight squeeze on the seat. Note that it has small wheels, not big wheels like a regular wheelchair, so it takes a little bit of muscle to move someone around, especially up a ramp - the seated person can't help by pushing the wheels. It's not a heavy duty chair - when crossing bumps in a floor (carpet edges and such), try to hit them at a perpendicular angle as I don't think the chair is up for much twisting action. The chair is really lightweight and folds up pretty well so it's really easy to put in a hatchback. He also uses it to roll around in the house on a limited basis because it's pretty narrow and maneuverable. Given the price of a rental wheelchair, this is a super bargain.

Great lightweight transport chair

This Transport Wheelchair boasts a 19" seat. Measuring it though comes up a bit short. However the distance between the two armrests is only 17" and that makes it too tight and uncomfortable. I got it for my father who is 94 years old but returned it for the reason stated above. I would recommend the Medline Freedom Transport Chair MDS808200SLR. The seat is a full 19" across and the distance between the armrests is also 19". It runs about $60 more online but it is worth it and weighs less than 15 lbs. Maybe Walmart could offer it.

Good Chair for a child.

This chair began to fall apart almost before I sat in it. The foot support plate fell off, then the chair began to tilt to the right, and I am not that heavy. Tt is truly a lightweight chair. The push handles are not very secure and feel wobbly when the chair is being pushed. I do not recommend this chair at all if you weigh over 160 lbs..
