I have 6 different gates in my house and this one is my favorite. It was expensive but worth it. I have it at the top of my stairs and it very sturdy. My children are age five to newborn and none of them can get over it or knock it down. If I had the money I would replace all my gates with this one.

This gate is exactly what it says. I read ALL the reviews first and still bought it. After installing and using it, I've realized that some people are either not thorough in reading instructions or not very common sensible. You DO need to make sure it's installed just right, but when you do, it will work great. Yes, it looks crazy crooked out of the box, but it is explained on a yellow tag attached to the gate! That's what it looks like before you install it! The set up was SUPER SIMPLE and easy, just need to make sure both side are turned evenly. You will need to adjust it carefully to make sure the slide release latches (or it WILL open just by pushing on it) and it's not too tight and rubbing. (The instructions say to make sure there's a 4 mm gap.) The instructions also CLEARLY say you have to lift the gate to open it...so that shouldn't be an issue either....it opens very easily. :) There is also the issue of having the threshold at the bottom that you have to step over, but it's not huge, and not a big deal at all. :) The only big downfall (that I KNEW about before buying anyway) is that my doorknob does hit the gate, making it unable to close the door. We fixed this issue with a bungie cord. :) This gate is one of the only ones that was skinny enough to fit in my 28 1/2 inch doorway, so I didn't have much choice, but I'm super happy with it. NONE of my kids (or myself) can climb over it, and it does lock back by itself (unless you close it very slowly.) Overall, I think this is the best gate we've had so far (with four kids, I've been through a few!)

I used a plastic baby gate until I saw this one. It is nice and tall, open and easy to use. It was installed in less than 15 minutes without tools. I love it. Nikki (the Schnoodle) and I wish we had it a long time ago. She can see through it so well she has stopped trying to jump over it all together. It has a great walk through door and it even works with my three year old granddaughter. I would recommend this to anyone for use with a child or dog.

want it latched/locked at night and nap but it will be in bedroom doorway and would like toddler to be able to get in and out during day easily but not at night lol

  • The gate will have to be held open (in either direction) with a door stop or a bungee cord to a chair or something because the gate has a spring loaded hinge that always returns the gate to the center locking position for safety reasons. I'm sure you will figure out a way to handle this once you purchase this GREAT gate.

  • No...it closes by its self. You would NOT be able to leave it open without using a latch. Sorry

  • Nothing built in, but you could probably rig something. Maybe a bungie cord hooked to the frame and the gate?

  • It swings shut and is a little loud when little ones walk back and forth through it, but doesn't lock unless you lift up on it.

  • I tie a small scarf or anything soft around the top of the gate. The scarf keeps it from closing and it is easy to remove. Just don't make it long enough for your child to choke on.

  • You would just need to prop it open. Maybe a small bungee cord and some kind of attachment to the wall might work.

  • Yes you can do that. It opens ez when not latched. To latch or lock the gate you have to push the button and lift. They would not be able to just push it closed without lifting.
