I was pleased with the PS. At first I didn't think it would fit. It has a 20 pin cord and my mother board had a 24 but the ad said universal so I tried it and it fit fine and ran everything. It is loud when it comes on but quite down once it was booted. I highly recommend it. BTW I installed it in a HP m7160n.

I had a power surge at home. It ruined the power supply on an old computer. (new one on UPS). This was inexpensive, fit exactly. It's a little noisier than the original but it's 500W vs 300W. Didn't need the power but this was one of the least expensive units I could find.

This is a very good power supply for a low budget. Works cool, not as noisy as my old one, so I am pretty happy there. It has both 20 and 24 pin extension, so you can use it for pretty much every motherboard there is at the time.

  • If it has a a standard size opening then this power supply will fit. it measures approx 3 x 5 x 6 and has a 20 pin + 4 pin mother board connection it only has 2 sata connectors so I had to buy adapters to add more sata connectors. It has an extra 4 pin plug which I assume was the PCI express.

  • Depends on how many drives you have and where your case fan picks up power

I noticed that the fan vent is on top of the power supply, not next to the ON/OFF switch facing out of the CPU. If my CPU is closed on the top, does this matter? is the power supply still cooled down efficiently?

  • As it is mounted in the computer you are looking at the bottom of the power supply. It will work. If it has a a standard size opening then this power supply will fit. it measures approx 3 x 5 x 6 and has a 20 pin + 4 pin mother board connection it only has 2 sata connectors so I had to buy adapters to add more sata connectors. It has an extra 4 pin plug which I assume was the PCI express.

  • No its not important in most cases. The fan is actually on the bottom, the picture is taken with the power supply upside down to show the fan. This power supply pushes air out through the power supply rather then pull it out. If your system is running hot add case fans to increase case flow.

  • I have mine installed with the fan facing downward. I figure it's going to suck up dust no matter what, this way I can keep it cleaner using a can of air. Mine seems to be staying cool just fine. The air still blows out the open back vent and the most it ever feels, is slightly warm.

  • you have to mount it upside down then the fan hits the cage cover an makes noise

  • It depends on how many cooling fans you have. It you just have the one on the power supply you may better check with the manufacture but if it has one or more build onto the computer you will be OK.

  • When mounted, the 120mm fan is actually on the bottom pulling air up and out of the holes on the back of the unit. Manufacturers show power supplies of this design upside down so the fan can be viewed in the pictures. Some feel this design provides more efficient air flow than traditional designs with one 80mm fan on the back of the unit, but I have found both styles to work fine. Sometimes manufacturers spin the 120mm fans a little slower yet still achieve the same air flow as an 80mm fan spinning faster thereby making the power supply quieter when in operation. The V-500 is a little loud for a 120mm fan design but is not too loud.
