The manual that comes with this states that it should not be used in an "air-tight" place due to the fact that oxygen is consumed while heat is created. That being said, it is very safe for indoor use, just be sure that there is nothing flamable near it and that there is plenty of room for the heat and air to circulate. We use it while off-grid camping in our rv and it works even better than the furnace, the only thing I can say is that if you want better heat circulation you should buy the next model up, since it comes with a fan built in and this one doesn't.

It really is the safest I've found so far. The only restriction is not to let anything lay/fall over it, It will leave a burn mark . Our son pushed it back when he got to hot and was unaware he had it up against the back of our Coleman tent and the material was resting over it. The next morning after 6 hours like this our tent was left with only a burn mark/stain., no holes and no flames.. Thank Goodness!

Indoors?? I would not risk it!!! Nor trust a CO monitor to warn you of poisonous/deadly levels....

None are given but they would be common sense - keep it away from anything flammable (a few feet or so), etc

I would just warn that the front gets hot if its on all day. I tried to push it aside with the eraser on my pencil and it melted....lol

It does say that it can be used indoors, but there needs to be ventilation. Claims that the burning of propane uses oxygen, and can put off carbon monoxide. Little scary.

I used it all night in a dome tent, with a part unzippered a bit. Seemed to work fine.

It's designed to be used indoors - in a tent actually. Manual says to at least have a fresh air opening of 6" square and to not use around flammable liquids or vapors.

this heater does not require it be vented so you can use this indoor or outdoor dont matter and it will be safe

my husband uses this in his car, vents the back window alittle. Safety advice would be to keep away from children, and to take the tank off when not in use so it doesn't get turned on accidentally like my husbands did.

What safety advice or restrictions apply to indoor use?

It can be adjusted down to around 1000 btu output, no real temperature settings. I can get around 7 hours out of bottle on the lowest setting. Only 3 hours when it is on high.

In my experience with this product, one 15.4 ounce bottle of propane lasted me about 13 hours on low and on high I got about 7 hours plus or minus. There is no thermostat per se, but there is a high and low setting.

It reccomends not using a larger than recomended propane bottle.

I can use a small canister on high for at least 2-3 baseball games back to back. This past weekend I put it on low and after 8 hrs it was still going.

I think the "low" setting is 1500 BTU and the bottle of propane on mine will run about 6-7 hours on low

It has low and hi temps adjustment, it will burn longer on low.

you get about 7 hours of use on high, twice that on low.

The adjustment knob is basically full, medium, and off. So I'm guessing medium is 1500 btu's - which is similar to the lower-end model that gets about 14 hours of heat out of a standard disposable cylinder. So, somewhere between 7 - 14 hours if you don't keep it on full blast the whole time.

there are no temp markings in heater just a less or more scale and yes if you have it on a lower setting you will use less gas = more time per bottle

It has an odor when you light it the first time. I took it out in my garage and let it burn for a couple of hours and now it is fine.

nothing that I have noticed. maybe a little bit of burn off on the first use.
I used this all night in my SUV and didnt notice any odd smell

Excellent for cold weather camping, in a 1 to 6 person four season weather tent. Don't expect the Black Cat to work well in a summer tent (one season), that allows a cool breeze in the summer. The base is practical. The arms fold out and away from the heating element, not the attached canister and it does not tip easily. It has a slow burn, with a small glow under protective screen. No flames while it keeps you warm. If it does tip over it has cut off and protective screen. It works well for drive by camping and for kayaking because it's weight is a big issue for back country hiking, camping, etc.

I use this on my deerstand, and I have had it for a few years. It doesn't make noise, or put out a smell. Works very well!!!! Especially nice when you are teaching your kids to hunt on those cold days. Propane bottle last a good bit.

I have always gone to Coleman first when looking for great value, ease of use & durability. This heater will go camping with me & be a backup at my home in case of power outage. I have a small home & this will heat at least 1 room for 12 hours on 1 can of propane.

easy to use

Used my heater on a 38 degree night and it kept the tent warm. It ran on one can of propane over the six hours that the package said it would. You do however get a little condensation on the interior walls of the tent when you use a heater but it was not enough of a problem to not use the heater on the second night.

Heater was great, performed well and propane tank lasted longer than stated on owner’s manual. (a 1lb propane tank last up to 7hrs.....but it lasted almost a full 10hrs) I was very impressed with my first heater(bought 2yrs ago) that a bought a new one this hunting season. Temps dropped down to 19degrees F at night and heater kept the tent warm at night with no discomfort.

We also use both my Coleman heaters for my step-daughters volleyball games every Sunday morning. Helps us keep warm before her matches.
