the base of the chairs and table is wrought iron (and heavy). The structural elements (frame) of the table top and chair is also a heavy gauge iron, the surfaces are iron mesh.

The metal of the chairs and table is actually mild steel but looks like wrought iron. Mild steel is better for things that will experience loads and stresses like chairs. It is also a bit lighter since the thickness of the steel can be a bit less. Sorry for the metallurgy lesson but many people have been wondering if this set is "wrought iron."

The set I was shipped has a bronze powder coat finish. It is very attractive. It is not glossy but has a slight sheen like the patina bronze gets when it is touched over time.

It fit well with our decor. The wind will have a hard time blowing it all over the place. The assembly package did not contain a simple picture showing where the lock washers were to be used, but a complete manual can be found on line. It took about 20 minutes to unpack and assemble the set.
