After finding out how bad the cheap HP 23bw monitor I bout turned out (obvious manufacture defects, HP never acknowledged them, screen flicker, ghosting images, worst monitor I've ever owned, and I _was_ a longtime fan HP products), I had to buy a replacement.

I saw a top 10 monitor list somewhere on the web and the #2 (read affordable) monitor on the list was an ASUS product, as was the #7 (only company that placed two products on the top 10 list). That was a 24 inch monitor, so I splurged and searched for an ASUS > than the size of the horrible HP 23bw, and found this 27 inch monitor at a reasonable price with very low shipping! Win/Win!

It was everything I wanted in a monitor and more! It's light years better than the wretched HP 23bw it replaces (warning: Best Buy are still selling that turkey in the $149-179 price range, beware! You will be sorry if you buy one, most HP forum posts echo all of the problems that I had with it, and more).

If you need a big monitor, with a bright and vivid picture, you'll love this one. Highly recommended.

Asus 27" Monitor

Great monitor. I can have many windows open that help me get my work done faster. The image is excellent and you can hook up in a variety of ways.

My only wish is that it only recognizes inputs that actually have connections rather than scrolling through all of the options to go from one connection to another.

Excellent monitor for the price

I'm a hard core gamer...and this monitor (along with my GTX 780) all settings maxed out! Call of Duty MW3/Battlefield 3 (I will be getting Ghosts and BF4) and I am sure I will continue to enjoy it!!

Just AWESOME!!

I've got this 27" Asus VS278Q-P monitor a couple of week ago, and so far it performs well. I didn't see any dead pixels, which was an issue in some of the reviews I read before making up my mind on this monitor. While I'm quite happy overall, one irritating thing to mention is a very high brightness. I tried to reduce it, but even when I dial it down to 0 in the menu, it's still rather high (the screen becomes somewhat darker, but never goes to even a semi-dark state), but the contrast becomes poor at those settings. So I have to work at something like 25 - 30% brightness settings, and there the screen literally shines from within. While this may sound romantic, it's actually irritating when you have to work with applications that have a lot of light colors (like white pages in Word or Powerpoint). I compared this screen with older "pre-LED" screens I'm using, and those produce nice matte white color, sort of like usual printer paper. I don't know if this is a problem of this particular monitor or of the LED backlight technology in general. This brightness problem, however, is not important when I use the monitor for watching movies because the bright light colors there are usually rather limited.

This is a great monitor, as soon as my grandson started playing his games, he was amazed at how good the grafits look.

This is a great monitor. It totally exceeded my expectations. It is big, bright, and very clear.

Big, bright, and clear monitor

The specs and "consumer" reviews (Asus reviews) made me think this was a killer monitor for the price. Outrageous contrast ratio, very low ms rate and crisp clear picture. It's average, and for the price, it is a fair deal compared to others.

My 28" Hannspree LCD's were about the same picture, had a bigger screen with a better resolution than this and the case didn't fall apart if I looked at it too hard. I repair electronics and I bought this for my gaming/CAD computer to replace one that got defeated.

First, If you're going to wall mount this, duct tape the side seams together. No, that's not a joke. The casing barely snaps together and the internal components are loose inside the housing. Inside, the four wall mount screws are on a metal bracket which is taped onto the back of the LCD. All of the weight (which isn't much) causes the front of the case to fall forward eventually and everything comes tumbling out. The LCD and boards are not connected to the plastic housing by any screws internally, only two pieces of metallic tape.

The other thing is all of the connections plug in at a 90º angle so you need a wall mount that has enough spacing off the wall or you won't be able to plug anything in. I didn't use the base that came with it so I can't comment if it is flimsy or not.

The monitor itself will take some abuse so it's good around kids or people like me that lose control playing a game and punch the screen. The display is crisp, I'm not knocking it. Blacks are black and there's no backlight reflection that you get with some LCD's. The only problem I've found with this is to get the good, crisp contrast, the gamma and everything has to be turned way low. So when you go to play a game, you have to adjust everything back up to a reasonable level to see everything so it isn't black.

Oh, and this monitor has something called Truefit or something for photos. Don't ever press that button. I haven't found any use for it but once it's on screen, it won't go away and you're stuck with a frame blocking out most of the picture.

Average display, cheapy casing but holds up ok

The one I received had 2 defective hdmi connections, the vga connection worked and I was not able to test the display port. The base was not large enough to keep the monitor stable when you work the buttons without jiggling. Returned to Walmart. May order another if I don't find something I like.
