No, it doesn't. It contains red dye, and alcohal. Totally safe for fish.

it's actually red wax and steel shot, just like the package says.

I've owned a few of these thermometers and I'm not buying any more! I just had one break in my salt water aquarium, the little beads fell to the bottom and I was afraid there was mercury in the thermometer as well. I RUSHED to Wal-Mart because there's no info online except here and I had to be sure! The package says exactly this: Thermometer contains alcohol, paraffin wax, steel shot and lead paper, glass tube, non toxic coloring. No worries when yours breaks, I just used a net to try gathering the glass and small metal balls.

This does not have mercury in it, does it?

Other petstore sell different brand for $2+ but this one is 1.99.

Its very accurate and a must have. Only downsize is that the suction holder gets harden and will not stick well. Just buy a pack of suction cup holder will solve your problem at your local petstore.

Always use one in a fish tank!!

Bought a sticker thermometer first and it didn't read the temperature properly so we bought this glass version and it works very well! Sticks well to the corner of our fish tank, and is almost invisible when watching the fish swim. Great price and value!

Works Great!

I just recently bought this little thermometer, and so far it is very handy, accurate and durable. Other reviews say it's really breakable, but mine has fallen inside the empty tank and been through a lot of smooshing up against the glass to try to get it to stick, and it's still in one piece. It takes a bit of work to get it to stick, but once on, it's stayed nicely. I love how it's in the water, and not on the outside of the tank. You get what you pay for, and for the low price, this little sucker is a nice tool.

Good Value For The Price

This thing has showed me why my fish die in the winter. The tank is too cold!!! It is very accurite, and shows you the safe zones for the tank's water temp.

A good product...

These thermometers rock. Very easy to read and plus it sits in the water not on the outside. I used to have the little sticker thermometers and they're very hard to decipher actual temp. This one is glass so use your common sense and try not to break it. Don't worry NO MERCURY or LEAD here, it's wax with steel shot.

accurate and affordable

This thermometer works as expected. At the beginning I had a little trouble keeping it stuck at the same place. It is more accurate than the stick-on's.

Good Product

It worked well until I came home and discovered it broke. The little metal beads are all over now. I can't find a website to contact the manufacture and my packaging is long gone. Hopefully it's not toxic. DO NOT buy if you have a turtle like me. I think it should be alright with fish, just beware it's not very durable.

These thermometers work well but are VERY prone to breaking. I was cleaning the glass in my tank and it broke. Getting broken glass out of your tank is very difficult when there's sand involved. Don't worry if yours breaks in your tank or at all. I rushed to Wal-Mart to make certain there's no mercury in the thermometer and there isn't (according to the package). The box said exactly: thermometer contains alcohol, paraffin wax, steel shot and lead paper, glass tube, [and] non toxic coloring.

Handle With Care

I just bought one of these today after a different thermometer stopped working. I'm filling up some water to put in my fishes tank and check the temperature and the bottom bit just shatters, all of the little beads falling everywhere. I'm just glad that this didn't happen in my fishes tank. I don't know if it was a fluke, or I get what I pay for. The water wasn't hot at all, certainly not hot enough to have this thing shatter just moments after I open it. I would not recommend this to anyone.

Brought it home... Tried attaching it to fish tank glass. Within about a minute it detached and broke.
