It is advertised today 12/25/2012 for $19.95. Hope this is not totally useless by now. Take care :)

no seal. loose fitting heavy lid. very heavy when filled with liquid and food.

No it does not seal and i haven't been able to find a seal that would fit...

This jar does not seal. The lid merely fits on the jar. The weight of it keeps bugs out but if you need a tight seal this may jar may not work.

does not come with a rubber gasket, but I use one for pet treats with no problems and live in florida with no bugs getting inside.

plastic wrap over the mouth under the lid works fine.
As long as you're not pouring boiling liquid into it ( it's not tempered glass) it will be fine.
I use them to marinate meat, as well as for long term storage of dry stuff

Does this jar seal? Could I use it to make pickles?

The glass is very thick but I wouldn't try to put boiling water into it. I think you could put cold water in first and then add the hot tea. These containers are huge and very heavy! They were too big for our cookie buffet for our wedding. I returned them for smaller cookie jars.

It's not tempered glass, not at all suited or safe for boiling water to be poured into it.

I believe it would be okay to brew tea. I wouldn't use boiling water but maybe water that is at a low simmer.

This jar is thicker than my usual glass hot tea holder. I would use it for this.

I'm not sure I would try that for two reasons--First, not sure it's made to withstand temperature extremes. Second--and most important--You would need to lift this jar to pour the tea. It doesn't have a spigot/tap. Its a BIG jar and very heavy--would be quite difficult to lift and pour with any accuracy.

Great product, you can store all kinds of things in.  I bought several to store my Christmas ornaments by color.  No more looking for what I need.  Love them!  What I do recommend is buying them at the store. Local delivery  leaves them without any protection whatsoever , needless to say I received one chipped but Walmart made it right.  Getting them shipped they arrive very well packed but the adhesive from the tape makes them a little hard to clean however, they are in perfect condition, so worth the extra effort.

Great for finding things and excellent quality!

This is a great jar for a great price. If you happen to be doing the Pumpkin Jack, experiment, this jar works great. It is not airtight, but you can use a piece of wrap between the jar and the lid.

Large lid and mouth. Perfect for detergent, flour, pup food etc. Only thing i wish they would have done was put a gasket on the lid. But thats easily remedied.

2 Gallon at a perfect price

Really like these for flour, rice, coffee beans, even laundry detergent. Right now I just have a lot of flour in them cause I do a lot of baking.  They're beautiful. The only down side was the packaging, one broke in transit. Instead of standing them up in the huge box and putting the dividers in between, they laid them down so there was a lot of empty space in the huge box for them to move around. Since they were also wrapped in brown paper I cut myself lifting it out because you can't see that it's broken. So I returned the broken one to the store and showed the clerk a pic of how they packaged it so she can pass it on to whoever. But she said they come from the warehouse so they have no control. As if there's no general manager for this area. I would order them again but pick them up at the store.

I put laundry detergent in it, Perfect size for 2 boxes. The glass is thick and heavy. Looks beautiful in my laundry room!

Heavy solid glass jar

Nice big jar. 5 stars if it had a seal on the lid. I looked around for jar gaskets and couldn't find one that would work. I found a simple solution though
.. get some 1/8" x 1/4" dense foam weather stripping (the kind you put around a door frame) and tape it around the protruding lip on the underside of the lip. Makes a decent seal. Might have to replace it from time time, but it's cheap and comes in long roles. Works for 1gal and 2gal jars.

No seal is disappointing - hack below
