Hi Johnny. You are correct about the major difference between the Hitch and the Dolomite being the drilled out rims. Other than that, the only major differences are the color and style of each model. Thanks for your interest in Mongoose Fat tire bikes.

Not sure the maximum. I weigh 185, hung 83 lbs of stuff on this bike, road it 15 miles, and had no problems. So, the max must be somewhere north of 268 lbs.

I purchased this bike to ride on the shore of the ocean. It rides on hard, soft, wet sand with no problems. It's heavy and not fast but it goes where I want . I got a more comfortable seat!

I've put about 40 miles on the bike so far and it has ridden well. Definitely going to want to upgrade the saddle, makes riding much more comfortable and able to go longer distances. Bike is also very sturdy I go about 6'3 370 and this bike holds me well, the fat tires make a big difference in supporting a larger rider and give a good workout because more effort to pedal than standard tires. For the price can't beat it but will require upgrades over time such as the brakes and shifter but overall I've had no issues with stock ride so far.

Good value, sturdy ride

The price was cheaper than anywhere else online or in store, the bike arrived earlier than expected and in excellent condition. This is a great starter bike that can be upgraded, this is not your Mongoose from the 80s and you will want to upgrade the brakes because the ones on it are awful. Over all Im very pleased with the purchase. Just FYI I also purchase a Mongoose Malas, Malas and Hitch and Dolomites are all the same bikes just different color schemes. Happy Riding!!

Would definitely recommend and purchase again!

A great bike for the money.  You just need to do a few things to have a 1000$ big wheel bike for about 300$.  Have the bike delivered to a Walmart and assembled. Pick it up and take to a real bike shop.  Have them align the wheels/ adjust the brakes and grease all the bearings.  Have the twist shifter replaced with a thumb shifter and replace the pedals.  I had them put on air caps and a drink holder as well and bingo.  1000$ bike for 300$.

Great bike for the money

Bought this bike for my "Big Boy" Stepson.    He rode a Taff for a while, but feels more secure on the "Fat Tire".  I only own Schwinn bikes, and I've become somewhat bias towards them, but the Mongoose "Hitch" is a very well built bike.  We always ditch the stock seats and put a either a Schwinn "Gel" or "Memory Foam" commuter on our bikes, because the stock seats on most bikes suck it up.  The Hitch has no suspension, but with the 4 inch tires, he hasn't complained about the ride.  My stepson is a "Big Guy", and  this bike is built well enough to last him for a long time.  He has upgraded to "Wake" (780mm) handlebars and stem, because the stock bars were too narrow (730mm).  He also put a MegaRange freewheel on it to get a lower 1st gear.  Came stock with a 28T.  he switched to a 34T.  Great bike that he plans to continue upgrading.

It's not a Schwinn...but seems to be a good bike.

I purchased this fat tire bike two months ago but wanted to spend some time with it before writing a review.  The conclusion is that I am very happy with this bike, it has a lot of value for the price, it meets my needs very well (riding on sandy trails in NW Wisconsin -- my conventional mountain bike just gets bogged down, this one floats through the loose sand with no problems!).  I think Mongoose did a good job on the design, but there are some quality control weaknesses in the components and bike assembly, which I'll describe below.  I'd give it 5 stars without these issues.  I appreciate Walmart offering this bicycle at a reasonable price.  I have no regrets about purchasing it and would recommend it to others.  With the caveats that it is heavy and relatively slow (that was expected, it is not a $1000+ fat bike!), and the bike as a whole needs to be carefully checked and tuned -- just assembling it out of the box may not be enough.  It is great fun to ride, and good exercise.

I ordered this for in-store delivery, it was delivered a few days later than estimated, but this was not a surprise as it was ordered 4th of July week.  It arrived in perfect condition, beautiful paint job, no dings or scratches.  No parts damaged or missing.

Reading many reviews before purchasing, it was clear that there was a lot of variability in what purchasers found when they assembled the bike.  Following are my observations, yours may be different.  
- I was concerned about the bearings, given that some reviews said they were dry or minimally lubricated.  All of the bearings on my particular bike had adequate, not generous, grease applied.  BUT - both axle bearings were way too tight, to the point of binding.  I adjusted the cones so they were just tight enough to have no play, and the wheels spun freely with minimal friction.  The same was true of the pedal bearings.  The crank and headset were fine.
- Two components were marginal at best - the freewheel and the twist-grip shift.  I would rate the freewheel on my bike as "defective".  It had a lot of play (missing ball bearings, maybe?), made a lot of growling noise when coasting, and loud clanking noise when pedaling vigorously, especially in 3rd, 4th, and 5th.  The clanking seemed to be caused by the play.  Oh, the bike was rideable with this, but sounded and felt like a piece of junk.  This was not a major concern for me, because the large cog (28 tooth) on the OEM freewheel was not appropriate for this bike anyway.  I replaced the stock 14-28T Falcon freewheel with a Shimano MF-TZ31 Tourney Freewheel (14-34T Mega 7 Speed), which provided a much lower 1st gear, essential for getting this heavy bike up hills.  This freewheel is well-matched to the Tourney TX derailleur that came with the bike, and shifts very smoothly when adjusted correctly.  And it is very quiet - no clanking or growling!  This freewheel is available from many suppliers, including Wal-Mart, price is in the $10-20 range and well worth it.  As for the twist-grip shifter -- as observed by others, it is too sensitive, and it does not want to stay in 1st gear.  I was able to improve this a bit with derailleur adjustments (ensuring that it was able to get completely into 1st gear with just a little buffer), but I plan to eventually replace the shifter with a new one (8 speed, and upgrade to an 8 cog 11-34 freewheel).
- The brakes and derailleur both required quite a bit of adjustment, but this was not hard, and the Shimano TX derailleur seems to perform very well for being a "low end" derailleur.  We'll see how it holds up.
- One thing I was really impressed with was how true the wheels were.  No side to side or radial runout.  I have seen new bikes where they need re-truing out of the box.  Not this one.

With the changes above, the bike was very smooth and quiet, pedaled easily (well, on the flats or downhill, anyway), and was a real blast on the trails!  Great ride!
