You can get by without a primer if the metal is clean and oil free but I would recommend the use of a primer first. It will help fill in some of the casting imperfections for a smoother finish and it gives you a good base coat for the top coat to adhere to. Use a wire wheel on a drill and parts cleaner to prep the part and blow dry with compressed air and paint.

Primer dont have the heat complicity the heat paint does so no. It just peel off if you did.

do I have to use a primer on a aluminum intake manifold?

Rust-Oleum Automotive Engine Enamel can withstand temperatures up to 500°F.
We would suggest using Rust-Oleum Automotive High Heat paint for this application, model #598391. It renews and protects surfaces subject to heat up to 2000°F.

I have not personally used this on exhaust manifolds but it will withstand heat up to 500 degrees. They also make brake caliper paint that is good for 900 degrees. I have used it on rear drums with great results. One other option is they make a high temp paint for BBQ grills that was good to 1000 or 1200 degrees. The question here is how hot does the manifold get??

Can this paint be used on an Exhaust Manifold?

We would recommend using Rust-Oleum Automotive High Performance Wheel paint, model #595173, for this type of application.
This product is recommended for use on plastic hubcaps and wheels made of aluminum or steel.

It would work on your wheels but you will have to sand blast or wire wheel on a drill to remove or scuff up the clear coat on the wheels first and I would recommend the high temp primer and they also make a high temp clear coat to finish your project!

Sprayed nice. End product came out looking nice and smooth and very nice shine.

takes a about 3 coats to cover , but it really.lays nice and dries really fast like in 1 hrs dry to touch .

Product works well on a clean surface. I used it to repaint a radiator.
It worked very well, and looks new! No runs or sags in the paint, and holds up to engine heat well.
