Yes, this can be used in conjunction with a wireless device if you wish to expand your network wirelessly. If you're going "all wireless" then no, this paticular device is designed for wired access only.

it's a wired router - it won't run wireless but if you want to string cables all over the place, this is a good one.

As long as your Cable or DSL service runs through a respective modem providing an ethernet (network) jack, yes.

The quick answer is yes, but there is a lot more you probably need to know.

First, you will need to have what is usually called a cable modem or a dsl modem which is normally provided by your internet service provider. (If you already have cable or dsl service, you probably already have one of these.)

The modem will convert the cable or dsl signal into an Ethernet signal which then normally plugs into the Ethernet socket on one computer.

This router allows you to connect up to 4 computers to the cable modem or dsl modem and get internet service on all of them.

This is done by connecting the cable from the modem to the input of the router. Then each computer is connected by a cable to one of the 4 outputs on the router.

In case you are new to all this, please read on. (The following information applies to any wired router, not just this particular model.)

*** Things to be aware of! ***
1. All the computers you plan to connect to this router must have an Ethernet socket on them. (Most new computers have them, but many older ones do not.) In that case, you can usually buy and install what is called a Network Interface (NIC) Card in an empty slot in your computer.

2. If your internet service is already slow with one computer connected, it will probably get worse when you connect more computers. Your internet service provider may be able to provide a faster connection, but this will cost more per month.

3. You will want to have Anti-Virus Software on each computer which you connect to the router, and you will need to keep it up to date. (Even a good free version of Anti-Virus is fine, but it is a mistake to try to get by without this.)

4. You will need a separate Ethernet cable to connect each computer to the router. (Usually only one or two come with the router.) You must buy any additional ones separately. (These are usually called Cat5 or Cat6 cables.)

5. When your power fails (or you turn the power off) to the cable modem or dsl modem and the router, it is not uncommon for everything to have problems communicating when the power returns.

Usually everything will correct itself if you wait several minutes. The other alternative is to turn everything off and then power up the modem, then the router, and then each computer (one at a time).

Hello ... I purchased this router over the net and had it shipped to the Wally World two miles from my home, it arrived in a timely manner, my wife picked it up for me while I was out of town on business ... No shipping costs... Quick, easy, no sweat.

This is the second Linksys BEFSR41 4 Port 10/100Mbps Wired Broadband Router I have purchased, the first one only lasted over 12 YEARS with nary a malfunction. I upgraded my engineering office with a new AT&T internet connection to lower cost and increase speed. Due to software and possibly hardware evolution the origional router would perform irratically with the new AT&T stuff. So to improve my office reliability and capability I upgraded to the newer router.

Upgrading was a really, really simple, easy installation ... unplug one, plug in the other ... did not have to run their software ... The AT&T service automatically recognized the router... All I had to do was run around to all the other computers on the network and update the settings, since it was a different ISP address, etc.

A Good, Reliable Product

I was having problems finding a router that would connect my home computers & PS3 to the internet. I tried the D-link router and that was very difficult to setup, not plug and play as they claimed. I then purchased the Linksys. Opened the box and ran the CD that came with the unit. Everything works great! Very satisfied with the product.

I have used six of these in my home business and they installed easy and have operated with no problems. Anyone with basic computer knowledge can install one of these using the included software. My oldest router is now four years old. I also have used their wireless router that is the bigger brother of this model and it has also worked flawlessly now for three years plus.

This produck i just got is a Linksys BEFSR41 4 Port 10/100Mbps Wired Broadband it is very nice to have if u are a gamer and want to play xbox360 live i just have two things to say about this produck that i do not like it gets very very hot and thats no good for it. And it likes to go out ones in a blue moon to so u have to pull the power cable out to reset it but over al it is very good

kind of a crapshoot - on died after 3 years and one is still going after 5years. A new one was DOA out of the box. When they work they work - you know the rest. I run my office dsl connection thru it to a hub so I can get away with just a couple of ports.

It's not great until you consider the alternatives. Couldn't Cisco have make a better one?

rock solid - sometimes

I bought this router because i wanted to share my internet connection with my Xbox 360. First off, when you first open the box it shows you exactly what to do. Downloading it was charm and get Norton Internet Security 60 Trial. Configuring it to work on the Xbox 360 was little difficult. My problem occue when i connect to XBL it kept on failing at the XBOX Live banner. But i fix and it works. Im 14 years old, and i could even set the router. Overall , A Great Product!!!!!!!

this slowed down my systyem and all of my computers are brand new and are connected to high speed dsl and it felt like i was connected to dial up

not very helpful

We were already using a Belkin router, but I saw this model at Walmart and noticed it said it had "high security" and also with speedbooster. So I bought it thinking it would be much better. WRONG.
I did everything per instructions and as soon as I plugged it in, I smelled something burn. It would not connect at all.
But the part that got me, is this "securituy" and speed booster. Gues what? its a free TRIAL to trend Micro! You have to BUY the sub after the trial ends!
Just get a normal router, then get a free firewall like Zone alarm.
