I received my first copy soon after it became available...after watching every episode of The French Chef as a new bride...this is my second copy as I have worn out my original copy.  It is the "kitchen bible" !

A "must have" !

I have been cooking since I was 10 and collecting cookbooks ever since. So why did I never add this to my collection???? If you are a beginner, the instructions, diagrams and tips are invaluable. If you are a seasoned cook, the recipes are wonderful and it is just a great read!

Why did I wait so long?

The edges have permanent damage to the hardcover which I cannot even bend back into place... A machine is likely the case of poor handling on a conveyor belt and shipping carelessness. And it's not just my OCD. There's 7 huge dents! 3 of them are 3 centimeter deep and in uniform shape of something metal had handled it!
The pages look like the copy editor did little effort to reposition the text to fit the pages. Personally, I would have scaled it to fit more fully on the page. They all seem off center, crooked, and too close to the center bonding. You'll have to bend the book into the splits in order to read it all. There's a big 1 inch blank border that belittles the whole reading experience, too.

In conclusion, I should have bought this book at a local bookstore. Preserving the cover is important to me, hints the whole reason for the extra charge of money to get a hard cover in the first place!>:(
Otherwise, if just the context of the book is what you're after, just get paperback. The extra charge isn't worth it.

Permanent damage to hardcover. Buy it in person!
