yes it does. The format is different (Point value scoring works differently, as do unlocks, and only 4 different stages) but it plays quite similarly. Still, after the melee cancelling/incredibly high polish of RE5's mercs mode...it's kinda disappointing. Plus the PS2 chugs way too hard when the screen's filled with zombies....it's really only worth playing on the Wii or GC versions (entire game as well imo...PS2 just can't quite handle it)

As the title says, this is a must have for horror game fans. There were plenty of tension building moments that had me white knuckled and pressing the buttons so hard I thought I was going to break the controller.

The storyline is great, excluding some cheesy dialouge, and the lenth of the game is awesome.

There are a lot of puzzles though. Some require backtracking so if you're a type of person who just likes to run through a game as fast as possible then I wouldn't suggest this one.

The mosters were pretty creepy, especially the Regenerators and the Iron Maidens. Frustrating at times cause they are hard to kill. Little tip on killing them: use the rifle with infared ( or whatever it's called) scope and shoot the parasites inside them. For the Iron Maidens- there are five parasites. One is well hidden on it's back, so be sure to find and shoot it.

Something however that I don't like about this game is the controls. To shoot you have to hold down the R1 button to aim your weapon and then press X to fire. The directionals aren't very smooth either and they are a little bit on the slow side. I preferred using the directional pad instead of the joystick because my finger would slip off constantly. This is something that you get use to though.

Overall this is a great game. There is tons of gore including heads exploding, monsters breaking out of bodies, and just plain nasty looking parasites. This is definetly NOT for kids. Although on the package it warns of language, there isn't that much. Nothing worse than a PG-13 movie and there is nothing but violence.

So my verdict..... GET IT!!!

First off, I owned it for GAMECUBE, where the graphics were even better. But this is definitely one of the TOP 5 games of ALL TIME. No questions asked. This is another very postdated review. i played it and beat it maybe 4 yrs ago. But I still played it sometimes maybe 2yrs after. The game HAS IT ALL: graphics, ACTION, HORROR, THRILLS, a GREAT STORY LINE, EVERRRRRYTHING!!!! i played through the campaign mode maybe 7 times and the minigames are FUN, FUN, FUN!!!! If you rate this game less than a 4, you must NOT be a gamer. The game is PERFECT!!!! Even if you have a 3rd GEN now, if you've never played RE4, get it and play it!

you play as leon s. kennedy who has been called in to a mysterious part of europe to rescue the president's kidnapped daughter. along the way you will travel through richly detailed and intricate environments (including a beautiful gothic castle) where you will battle chainsaw wielding villagers and creepy cultists (these are only the tip of the spear) with everything from pistols to shotguns, machine guns, and even rocket launchers. will you be able to uncover the secrets of this evil cult and save ashley?

The graphics were superb. Truly all that the PS2 has to offer as far as visual effects. Enrapturing storyline with a tense atmosphere throughout, keeps you on the edge of your seat.

This possibly the best game I have ever pleyed. The graphics are good. The story is excellent. The controls are easy to learn and use. I have played this game at least 5 times now and it still has not gotten old. This is a must play!

I enjoy this game! Graphics are great! It was a good thing I did not make plans because when I started playing, I looked at the clock and found that I lost a day playing non-stop!
Hint:shoot at lights,nests in trees,crows for extra $$.
I recomend this game.Its lots of fun,challenging and full of surprises.It does contain gore and some creatures may be too scary for young players though.But it can be addictive if you like this genere.

Wow. What a poor port of a great game.

First thing's first--this has all the content from the Gamecube game plus the extra content (Ada's storyline "Separate Ways", Ada's "Assignment Ada" short, difficult stage, and a few more assorted unlocks) like the later Wii version.

RE4 plays a bit...differently than your normal zombie-shooting funfest. In order to shoot (a-la old resident evil), you must hold the shoulder button/stop moving and aim a laser sight with the stick. It's a bit cumbersome at first, but the pacing of the game/speed of enemies tends to work well with this control scheme choice. It broke a ton of new ground upon its 2004 Gamecube release, winning Game of the Year. Unfortunately...it didn't age well, especially now that RE5 is available.

Issues (overall game):
-Ashley. She is a complete moron, and is really the only reason this game is ever difficult. With absurd overuse of muddy command options, you can mimize her idiocy...but she's game-breaking and the reason you'll probably only be able to stomach one playthrough. Basically, she can't shoot or take any damage, and will walk up to groups of enemies then just kind of...stand still and duck. It's absurd, and it will illicit quite a few profane outbursts due to repeated, uncontrollable gameovers.
-Upgrade system. Almost don't even know why they bothered. There are no options to speak of and the upgrades are locked (can only upgrade so much depending on how far through the game), so basically, if you found most all the money in a chapter, you can afford to upgrade all stats to current max...if not, you can't. That's it. No thought required...just generally a wasted opportunity, esp. compared to RE5's perfected upgrade/inventory.
-Inventory. You must pause, access inventory/change guns, then unpause. It's attention-breaking, and it's flow-breaking. RE5 utilized a hot-switch with the d-pad, which removed pausing for in-game menus and allowed the action to never break. HUGE improvement.

In general, it's a solid game you'll have some fun with. Most of the enjoyment (in my opinion) was had by the halfway mark though.

The true problem with this version is the PS2 port, mainly due to smoothness.

The framerate jumps (like massive kangaroo-leap jumps) the entire game. Remember GTA: San Andreas? Same kind of issues, and without a difficulty-crippling auto-aim. Basically, if you've already played RE5 and then go back and play this on this console, you will be disappointed.

The Wii version is far superior--better control scheme, much smoother framerate, progressive scan, same price....I'd wait to play this game on a console worthy of it.
