This is the only heating pad I could find that does not have the auto shut off and was reasonably priced. It was purchased for our outside dogs. So far so good. They hardly get off of it when it is chilly out.

I check with Conair. Even though the description and directions state that the temperature is adjustable - it is NOT. There is only on and off. When on the heating pad does NOT maintain a stable heat.

The pad was purchased for an animal, to be used on an unheated enclosed porch. So, I didn't want one with an auto-shutoff. Other reviewers have commented about the heat level not being adjustable. I think that's a safety feature. That is, for it to be on more than two hours, the heat has to be fixed at the low setting. According to the label on the pad, it's 49 Watts. Yes, there is an error in the instructions included with the pad. The photo is correct, showing that there is just an on/off switch. But the text says that the heat level is adjustable. One negative is that the "sponge" for moist heat is just a thin sheett of flexible packing foam. But I'm pretty sure the cat doesn't want to be humidified anyway. <grin>

How to keep your outside cat warm

This pad is for my cat who lives in my unheated garage and has access to the great outdoors via a pet door. She is provided with shelter from the elements and has this toasty heating pad placed on an old directors chair covered with an old towel to cuddle up on in winter weather. Food and water sit beneath the chair. The pad has no temperature control. It's either on or off manually. No timed shut off which is perfect for this application. She loves it as does my utility company. Get one.

Wife uses this under a cake pan that holds paper cups of early seedlings. Keeps them warm enough to sprout indoors while there's still blowing snow and cold outside. She wants another one next year to get two pans going. Not having the auto turn-off is a good thing in our case.

Bought this for my mother who has arthritist in one leg. She loves the small size. Only has one temp setting -but I like this as a saftey feature. Worth the money.

I'm not sure what features a heating pad usually has, but this one heats up... turns on and off too. I got this model because it doesn't have an auto-shutoff and I'm using it as a fermentation chamber heater for homebrew.
