Bought this smoker a month ago for my dad for a Christmas gift just something a little cheeky for him but he's enjoying it already used it 5+ times added his own custom grates!! only downfall is when I purchased this item I realized it didn't come with a cover up sheet not until a couple days later after purchase they came out with one and sadly don't wanna purchase one since I'd have to pay the shipping fee and what not would like it if they did the first 50 or so people that bought one got a free cover but yeh XD other then that amazing gift for you and or your father if he loves to smoke food 24/7
great smoker. it does use quite a bit of charcoal, but its so easy to use and puts out some fantastic bbq. wings, pulled pork, brisket, smoked mac n cheese. these all came out great. I would recommend this to anyone looking to start smoking or tired of tending to a stick burner.
Great Grill with great features
I bought about a month ago and so far I love the way it cooks and it's great looking too. Finding a cover is tough. Will review again when I've used more.
I feel very lucky to have this exquisite digital charcoal bbq/smoker.
I love the look and feel of this machine.
The hopper/chimney is fantastic.
Easy versatile grill!
I've just gotten into grilling with no experience smoking......and man what an awesome smoker! Easy to use versatile for smoking/grilling.....I love this grill. So far I've done steaks, ribs, and chicken and got great results on the first try!
Over the top cool!
I bought this grill for an early Christmas present to myself. I love the fact I can heat this grill up in 12 minutes and slow smoke at the same time. I also bought this because it has no moving parts to break other than the fan. My friends have pellet smokers and constantly have problems with the augur getting clogged. I also had a master-built electric smoker and it stood the test of time.
Avg Backyard BBQer
Had this grill over a month now and I still can't complain. One of the best parts to me, not having to remove old charcoal before adding new to my chimney! And with that said, no more chimney, well for a kettle I have but not the MB 560, dump and light. As the title says, avg backyard barbecuer, so with that said I use this sparingly - but I have smoked some ribs and chicken plus grilled a nice steak then finished with a gorgeous sear. Load it, light it, close it, turn it on and go. Check your phone and control temp - but don't go far as it will disconnect from the grill and it's an irritant constantly syncing up. So slow down and grill or smoke. Hang in the backyard and relax.
Great smoker/grill, crap app.
So far I love this thing, it's amazing. I hope it lasts and continues working for a long time. Now why did I knock off 1 star? Because the APP, to put it bluntly, SUCKS. Can't connect to the grill half the time sitting right beside it, it won't connect to wifi for love or money, and I can't actually control the grill when I do get it to connect but at least I can see the status. Terrible, just terrible.
I bought this grill a month ago. Unfortunately it came damaged. I have not yet sent pictures to the company, but I will. See if there could be any compensation. I repaired the front of the grill best i could. Now let's get to how it operates. It work awesome. I have smoked something every weekend this month. Still figuring out how much wood to pit in hopper. Also have grilled on it works great as a grill. With the electric temp setting and charcoal for that great flavor. Only reason for not 5 stars is it came damaged.
Wonderful temperature control, longevity concern
Temperature control across all grates is respectable and even at all set high temperatures. Average grate temperatures average about 10-15F higher than set point. Ease of loading and cleaning is excellent. The hopper and specifically the lower part of the firebox has completely burned through the metal and into the firebrick after only a half dozen cooks. Concerned about how long that will last and how difficult it will be to replace if even possible. Would recommend if this issue was mentioned in the manual or addressed on the website.
I bought this grill thinking it was the new best smoker/grill on market but unfortunately the cons of this grill are the coating they use for charcoal box comes off and sticks to lid and looks discussing and keeps coming off no way around it very disappointed that a month old grill looks that bad it goes all the way down gravity chute
Amazing Grill and Smoker
The set up and build for this grill took around 3-4 hrs to do. Once put together the fun began! It has so many awesome features! The first obvious one is the smoker attached to the grill! Able to cook so much and really learn a lot as well. Love the meat thermometer attachment to make sure your meat is cooked to proper temperature. Able to connect to your smart phone is an awesome plus as well. Great big grilling space and highly recommend. Great quality and trusted name brand. Best Grill/Smoker Ever
This unit is solidly built and exceeded my expectations! I bought this grill last week. Note, its heavy! :) After seasoning it, and cooking with it the first time my entire family ate my baby back ribs so quickly you would have thought they were eating pizza. This grill does an exceptional job at getting up to temperature quickly, keeping its temperature for hours, and is just awesome! I will never use gas or a pellet grill again!
This is my first Masterbuilt Gravity Series smoker, and really my first electric-assisted smoker that I've had. I can tell that it is very well built and is going to last a long time. It comes with ample grilling surface and is set up well for smoking or grilling. To start it, you have to have a fire starter stick or cardboard to ignite the charcoal. This took me quite a while the first time to get it started. But once I did, I could just set it and forget it until the time was up. I have used the bluetooth and app to be able to remotely monitor the temperature of both the grill and the meat (using the provided probe). This makes it very very easy.
The first time I used it, I tried their recommended method of putting wood chips (I used chunks) in the ash tray. The embers from the charcoal cause a slow and steady release of the smoke and gave the meat a subtle, not over powering smoke flavor.
One thing that I cannot speak to is how much charcoal it uses for the high-temp cooks. For smoking, it used about the same as when I use my other smoker. The advantage is that the fan does a great job of controlling the temperatures, and you are able to use the baffles to close it up and put out the fire when you're done to conserve some of the coal.
All in all, I would buy this smoker again a thousand times over. The only improvement I can see was that the instructions were a little bit hard to follow because it was picture based and a lot of the parts looked similar. But I got through it, it maybe took about 30 minutes longer than it should have. I'm very glad that I have it, though. It's going to supplement my stickburners for some added capacity! Masterbuilt, come on...where is the quality?!?
I must say, this grill is truly amazing! I have cooked burgers/steaks/dogs/brisket/ribs/pork shoulder...all have been some of the best I have ever had, hands down. This grill really can cook! The bark/smoke ring on the brisket, near competition level no doubt!
Now for the bad (would be 6 stars if there was no “bad”)
Quality, very lacking.
Peeling paint throughout charcoal tower. Tower needs an additional foot in length, Seals coming out of the channels they are supposed to exist within, “OPEN” displayed when lid is shut, heat plenum/distribution system maybe has 5-10 more cooks before the rust starts truly pitting through the metal.
I get it, takes money to make these things, and quality supplies have to be passed onto the customer. But, speaking for me and probably a good percentage of the people who “took the plunge” on this unit, would be shocked if I get more than one season out of this grill. Also, we probably wouldn't have thought twice to ante up another couple/few hundred More dollars to get a grill that would stand the test of time and not fall apart so quickly.
Masterbuilt, if you want to stay in the race...you gotta do better with the quality!!!! Competition for this type of grill is right around the corner, and choices will be there soon...
Very nice grill!
This is an amazing grill! It has so many neat features. It was easy to assemble and it's easy to use. It has a digital control panel where you can set the temperature or you can also use your smart phone via Bluetooth. At first the connection was a little tricky but I got it regulated within a few minutes and it worked perfectly. It doesn't take long to heat up and lasts many hours with the gravity fed hopper which is especially handy. I have entertained friends and family using this grill and I was able to grill a large amount of food. I love how much cooking space you have! It seems very durable and well made. I feel like this grill is exactly what my family needs. I'm able to grill, smoke, sear, etc. I highly recommend this grill! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Bought it a couple weeks ago absolutely! Love it! Put my pellet smoker in the dust
So far so good
Used it for the first time last night after assembly and worked great!
Only issue was poor workmanship on the electronics panel/side shelf which keeps it from seating securely.
Easy to use and very well built
I bought my Gravity 560 at a few weeks ago and I am so impressed with this grill. It is very well built and looks like it will last for years. It is also really easy to use - Fill the hopper, light a starter, set your temp and you are ready to cook within minutes. The cooking area is also plentiful. My first cook for 6 people was cedar plank salmon, baked potatoes and grilled veggies. I had plenty of space to cook everything at the same time with room to spare. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase, the only negative is the iPhone app that needs some work. Thankfully you don't really need the app to cook amazing food on it.
Destroys pellet grill!
I bought the gravity fed 560 about a month ago and have used it everyday since. The food this thing puts out, along with the ease of it, is unparalleled. You have the flavor and heat of a charcoal grill, but with the conventionality of a pellet grill. Pellet grills are nice but you will never get one to go up to 700 degrees to dear a good steak, and this one does it in a blink of an eye. I can fire this baby up and if I need to run down the road I'm not worried because I can check the temp of my grill and my meat on my app. If you're scrolling through the reviews trying to convince yourself to buy one, stop right here and add this bad joker to the cart. You have my seal of approval.
