Recently my wife and I purchased a fishing camp trip in Canada. We knew there would be no electronics on the boat, so we hurriedly purchased the Humminbird 140c Fishin' Buddy (Portable) color fishfinder.
We were amazed at how accurate the Fishfinder proved to be. It put us on fish we probably would have never realized were there. Was also very helpful finding ridges, flats, drop-offs, etc., etc., and the locations and depths of the fish that were suspended there.
We also used 'marker buoys' to enable us to troll and pick up more fish. All in all, a very handy little gadget that turned what could have been a ho-hum fishing trip into a very enjoyable trip.
Battery life is surprising, but be prepared while on the lake. The 2nd day we started getting erratic bottom signals and occasional shutdowns, so we changed batteries and problem solved.
Expectedly, it can be hard to read if not set up near the fisherman. Also, I tied a line around the unit in case it were to become dislodged from the holding bracket, which is a piece of art, but somewhat in need of more security. When done fishing, very easy to remove from holding bracket and zoom to the next fishing location.
Granted, this is not a state of the art electronic fish locator, but when faced with the possibility of no fishfinder at all, this is a very handy and dependable gadget. We used it every day (6 days) during our vacation.
