so very sad
After only three uses this unit has failed. The temperature regulator has stopped working cause my grill to top out at almost 700 degrees completely ruining dinner. The meat probes never worked constantly saying there meat right out of the refrigerator was 70-100 degrees. customer support was non-existent, although I will give some credit of that to covid-19. Nonetheless very disappointed! It seems they have started mass producing this unit, very poorly, as I've cooked on the same unit a friend owns before with no issues. And I agree with other reviews, clean up it's a pain. it requires removal of the grates, diffuser, both broiler shields and use of a shop vac. After buying accessories, it's a $600 lesson. you get what you pay for, I will stay with a higher priced, better manufactured pellet smoker.

The grill itself is great but the condition it came in was awful. The Box was torn up. The Grill was broken in 3 places. Not happy.
I bought this grill 2 months ago, the interior and exterior paint has bubbled and peeled already. Not accepatable as this grill has been stored inside a dry garage when not in use and had never seen the elements. PitBoss is an extremely poor quality manufacturer and I warn you, do not purchase anything from Dansons.
Garbage and terrible customer service
Wouldn't ignite after 3rd use! garbage! Buy a Traeger don't go the cheap route like I did. Company has terrible customer service. Refused to send replacement parts until I completely disassembled the bbq. I don't repair their faulty products so I returned to the store and bought a Traeger!
Beware of the paint!!!
The grill functions great but unfortunately their quality control in their paint department is lackluster. I had the grill 2 weeks and the paint started to bubble and peel, then shortly after that started to rust. I contacted PitBoss and they offered to send me touch-up paint for me to fix the barrel myself. I could not comprehend why I would have to repair a brand new grill, they told me its normal to expect the paint to bubble. I can believe that if the grill was left outside in the elements, or was several years old, but NOT a couple weeks in, that is ridiculous. Especially since my grill is always under a covered porch. After going back and forth for more than 2 weeks they offered to send me a new barrel and some touch-up paint. So, with all that, I get to disassemble the grill completely and rebuild it, way to stand behind your product. I tried to leave a similar review on their website but it has to be approved by the site admin so it may not show up on their site.
Less than a year and falling apart!!
Multiple issues including rust even though its under a covered deck, digital panel shorts out and auger gets stuck forcing you to take it apart to fix. We will never have another one of this brand!! Customer service wont help because it was built with no serial number on it. $500 piece of junk
Right out of the box the paint was coming off
I read all the reviews, but decided to bite the bullet and buy one. I got it home unpacked it got about 75% complete on assembly and I noticed all the copper colored pieces the paint was flaking and peeling away. I was too far into assembly to pack it up and return it. I need to pay more attention to the reviews and believe what I read to be true about the quality of the paint! I would never have purchased it if I would have believed what I seen.
Very disappointed. Had a treager and the treager is a much better grill
I do not recommend this grill. It does not work properly, lots of error codes. Very inconsistent. We returned it.
Worst Purchase EVER!!!
This has been the worst purchase i have ever made. The smoker stopped working after maybe 2 hours and absolutley no one is able to help. I have been on hold for approximitly 2 hours!!! unacceptable from walmart and also PITBOSS. save your your money and try something else
coming back after 1 1/2 years.. We loved this product until now. The auger stopped working of course the warranty is expired and its very difficult to take apart to try to trouble shoot it ourselves. not happy

I recently purchased this Pellet Grill after researching reviews and I am very DISAPPOINTED that it does not perform in ANY way that it is suppose to!! It will just shut off during operation then when it restarts it makes a loud explosion and the lid bounces up! VERY DANGEROUS!!! also the ONLY way that I can keep it under 380 degrees is to keep unplugging it then restarting at around 300 then it is right back to 5 or 600 .... I WASTED ALOT OF MONEY ON SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT WORK and they will not warranty anything!! STAY FAR AWAY!! see pic below. set at 200 and will not go below 560
Invest your money somewhere else.
It works well when it wants to. unfortunately you cannot trust the machine to keep running properly. I purchased the Austin XL less then a year ago, I noticed issue when i cooked brisket over night. After 7 hrs of lowest temperature the burner stopped. This left me with a smoker full a unburned pellets in the morning. The next time I cooked brisket i cleaned the unit well before cook and it did it again. I had to pull the brisket out after and finish in oven after only 6 hrs in the smoker. I cooked brisket again for 3rd time the same way and finished in oven because it shut down on me again after 8 hrs of cooking. Will upload more photos later of. I wish I would of invested my money on a better brand.

I should have researched this prior to ordering the grill, but I didn't. Had I of known it was made in China, I would not have purchased it. I'm sure it will be a fantastic grill, but I regret making the purchase.

Horrible machine.... i keep having to replace control panel ...... I wish I could get another product..... it was waste of 600 dollars
Newer ones are no good.
This model is Junk. I loved my first one. Used it for 3 years without an issue. I bragged on my older one so much and had several friends purchase based on my recommendation. I upgraded to this larger one and nothing but trouble.. Customer service was rude. Blamed the pellet fire and blow up on me.. Catches on fire. Auger quits, auger gets stuck, and now it's rusting after less than a year of purchase. Wish I had my older pit boss back.
Had the grill less than a year. Within 2 months 1 of the probes quit working. Now paint is burned off the barrel and rusted. The lid around edges is also rusting and deteriorated. Grill is always kept under my carport when in use and in my shop when it's not. Save your money for a better quality grill.
Ridiculous Temperature Swings!
I bought this grill dispite some of the poor reviews. First off, I read the reviews on how important it is to follow the preheat instructions. I did exactly that and after an hour in to lighting it, I couldn't get the temp to stay under 300 degrees. I called customer service and the lady told me I was doing it wrong. She walked me through the steps, which I pointed out were written differently in the manuel and she seemed to get upset. Whatever, after the phone call I did exactly what she told me and it got a little better. I smoked a brisket the next day and the Temperature swings are ridiculous! I have it set on 200 and it will fall to 185, then jump back up to 290-300. I've tried the P-settings, higher temps, it's all the same. There is no stability in the temperature. This is most definitely not a "Set it and forget it" type of grill. I had a masterbuilt wood chunk smoker before this and shouldve just stuck with it. Save your money and get a camp chef or something better.
Do not waste your money on this grill. I paid just about $500 for this grill. Used it for 1/2 a summer and auger stopped working, the grill was at my neighbors more than my house for repair! I finally just spoke with a Pit boss rep and the shaft is out of stock (imagine that) and he could not guarantee when I would get other parts. Anywhere from 3 weeks - 3 months. My husband and I retailed Pellet grills from Enviro and we never had a problem with them. This is A HUGE WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!!
2 grill in 2 days - buy a different brand
Went through two of these pieces of scrap metal in two days. The first one, the auger broke within 15 minutes. I returned it with and received a replacement, with ZERO help from Walmart's customer service (oxymoron). The second grill worked for about 2 hours before the temperature skyrocketed and fried the temperature probe and motherboard. Followed all the instructions, called Pit Boss for support, and their response was “well sometimes it happens”. Wasted about $150 in meat. Save your money!
