I have used many flashlights over the years from very expensive ($300+) ruggidized Mil-spec lights to super cheap generic ones and just about everything in between. Out of all of them this one is my absolute favorite. To me it is an incredible value for a mid power LED flashlight. MagLite has made some of the best most durable flashlights for a long time and now that they have LED tech they are almost perfect. Many people do not realize all of the benefits that LED flashlights bring like the fact that you will essentially never have to replace a bulb. They are Impact resistant and they make batteries last so much longer. I can't say how many times I have had bulbs on normal flashlights burn out on me at very inopportune times leaving me fumbling in the dark. I would recommend this flashlight to everyone I know from my grandmother to my son. It is the perfect balance of size and power and an ideal item to keep in an emergency kit in your home or car.
I have a high priced tactical flashlight from the late 90's that I use on a weekly basis that is 20,000 candlepower. A friend of mine had just purchased this MagLite LED 2 D Cell Flashlight. I stood in a near pitch-black setting with these lights side by side and was extremely impressed with the MagLite. The MagLite has a very clear white light whereas my tactical light has a yellowish tint like look. I spent over $120 in the late 90's for the tactical light and am very impressed with the MagLite. The only real differences are that the tactical light is compact in size and the end cap used to operate the light is easier to use when searching or clearing a building or room vs. the MagLite. Other than that, the MagLite in my opinion is wonderful and very bright. I will be buying a few of the MagLite LEDs for both commercial and personal use. They will be a great asset to emergency kits for the home and vehicles also. Oh, and when you consider the durability that MagLites have, it really is not that pricy. I have MagLites that I have had for up to 15 years and they STILL work just fine. I just like the whiter LED light better than the old ones. Way to go MagLite!!!
This is a good flashlight to rely on for it's durability and brightness. It provides a nice solid beam that you can see at night, almost like a light-saber. However, I accidentally dropped mine one day and it loosened the power switch of the flashlight, making it rattle. And the D-Cell batteries drain like crazy, even when the flashlight isn't powered, but that only takes months so it isn't an issue. To use as a primary flashlight, I highly recommend it.
I have owned Maglites in the pat and figured I'd buy a LED version. The light output is very bright.
It is a little over priced in my opinion. It is about two times the price of the original that I own. I still recommend it for its durability and brightness.
