I had to wonder what the writer's intentions were when he made this book. From the title, I thought it was a book to help new writers learn. But it looks like the book was set up to be more of a coffee table book, a conversational piece.
It is a good looking book, I'll admit that. But I really didn't learn much from it. Most of the pages were just one sentence per page. He'd give a rule, but that's it. No explanations, no examples, and no alternatives.
Example: he says to never use the word "suddenly". He doesn't say why. He doesn't give us "acceptable" alternate words to use or ways around it. So how are we supposed to learn from this?
Don't expect to learn much of anything from this book. If you want to seem pretentious, then this pretty book should be on your coffee table.
But if you want advice and tips that are actually helpful, then look elsewhere.
