I paid twice what walmart is charging for this at my local bookseller.
Aside from that, this really was a very good book. Yes a lot of the bits are clichés of the fantasy world, but they are woven together beautifully into a whole that is more than the sum of it's parts.
On thing that really sets this book apart is how the story is actually told. It's told as a narration from the protagonist after the fact. We all know he going to survive his mishaps and adventures, but what makes it interesting is how he did it.
There is a bit of narrative foreshadowing that fails to pay off, particularly in the "love" interest. I never felt like there was a whole lot of payoff in the relationship with Denna from all the build up, just a bit of passing fancy. But it could be building something for the next book to wow us with.
My only regret: I found this book shortly after publishing. Now I have to wait years for the rest to follow.
