While this is a flashy small appliance, after its very first us on med. heat, the center of the lid (above where the heat element is) lost all the gloss - it is still bright red, but now has a definite matte finish.
Also, the heating elements only heat an oblong in the center of the top and bottom plates. This isn't too bad for waffles, but I cannot cook pancakes on it, unless just pouring one in the center, and that totally defeats the purpose of having a stand-alone griddle - might as well just us a fry pan.
One of the main selling points is that 'it cooks faster and the grease drains out'... well, while it is true that the grease drains out because of its slope, the lid is so very heavy that it cooks out every bit of juice from the meat, so that even though the internal temp may indicate 'medium', the meat is tough and completely dried out. It is certainly NOT something to use on a nice rib eye, or any meat that is not of a uniform thickness.
I will NOT recommend this appliance to anyone - I am extremely disappointed in it.
I tried to return it, but was told that since the box and the molded foam padding inside had to be torn apart to get the thing out, I couldn't return it to the store.
