Customer reviews & ratings
We have had the TV for a week now. It is HUGE. Having a hard time finding a TV Stand to support it. The picture is life like. Watching animal show and nature shows, you feel like you are ready there. Love this tv.
Even though I was able to view a display model of this TV at a different store before making my purchase (a store where this model was priced double what Sam's Club sold it for on Black Friday), I must say I am pleasantly surprised and very impressed with the full performance of this TV now that I have it in my own home.
When this TV was originally launched in 2015 it did not support HDR content, however Samsung has released numerous firmware updates and has added HDR support to this TV. Some reviews I read complained that this TVs maximum HDR brightness was much lower than many other 2017 HDR TVs, but my wife and I do not find this to be the case. In fact during normal SDR content viewing we have had to turn the back light down 25% and have also enable the TVs ambient light sensor so the TV dims even more automatically when we watch TV in the evenings with lower light in the room. I've tried 4K HDR content with the built-in TV Netflix app, and also with multiple apps on our 4K HDR Roku, and it all looked excellent with solid blacks and bright highlights and lots of detail and good color saturation throughout.
I am also thrilled to say that the Clear preset for motion compensation provides an excellent artifact free smooth picture without a noticeable soap opera affect. This was another major concern of ours before buying the TV because Samsung is somewhat known for excessive soap opera effect in its motion interpolation software.
Of course, with a TV this large displaying SD content does look just a bit soft but still better than I expected at this TV size. In my opinion, even comparing with our 2016 Sony 65” XBR930, this Samsung does a very good job of upscaling content to the 4K display.
Finally, I find the build quality of this television to be outstanding. It arrived in a massive box, and when I opened the box I discovered part of the reason is because the sturdy pedestal stand for the TV was already pre-installed from the factory. I thought this was a great feature since I only had to lift the TV out of the box and set it on our TV stand and it was ready to go. The black bezel area around the TV screen is very small and surrounded by a thin brushed metal border which extends around the side of the screen as well. All in all I think it is a very classy high-end look and everyone who has seen the TV so far was extremely impressed.
In summary I have absolutely no complaints about the TV, and I have not found any tangible trade off or compromises buying this TV over any other 85 inch TV on the market. Considering this TV has full array local dimming compared with many other TVs in the size that only use LED edge lighting, I think this truly is the best 85 inch 4K HDR TV available on the market today. I am a bit of a TV guy and I have absolutely no regrets with my purchase whatsoever. Highly recommended! I can also complement Sam's Club on their excellent price and fast shipping, I was able to receive this TV at my house exactly one week after placing the order. If you're on the fence, don't worry and just go for it.
3D Home Theater Experience
TV purchased in July 2018. All features are fantastic. Especially the 3D function that allows me to watch my 3D movie collection. I'm partial to the 4K viewing, as well. Great colors and brightness. I'm expecting this TV purchase to be my last for the common area of our home. I consider it money well spent!!!
The crisp, clear colors on this TV are so phenomenal my grandfather said it reminded him of his vision after having cataract surgery. Blacks are black. Blues are blue. The screen is bright but not straining. The sound quality for a thin TV is very surprisingly good. The processor in the TV (that makes this TV a "smart TV") is a little sluggish and has trouble handling apps immediately after turning the TV on, as if it has to "warm up". It's sometimes frustrating, but wouldn't prevent me from buying the TV all over again. I've owned it 2.5 months and am appreciating the quality all around. The handheld remote takes a little getting-used to, but I've mastered it by now. Even 1080p is upgraded to a much clearer picture to handle the size. My friends are worried 4K is "too clear", as was I before I took the plunge. NOT the case, believe me! Even streaming 4K feed (let alone 1080), the picture is NOT grainy as if the contrast dial was turned on max. It's simply not the case. Having this 4K TV made by Samsung makes me feel like we're getting closer and closer to the quality of AMOLED screens on phones and tablets. The 120Hz motion rate (deceptively advertised as Motion Rate 240) is a must with a 4K TV this size (60"). Going with 60Hz is like getting a 6 cylinder engine in a corvette. Throw in a decent surround sound, turn the lights down, and lay back, and enjoy the experience.
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband, it was too big to hide so, let's just say he received his Christmas gift early! It was a huge hit! He loves it, the picture and quality are amazing!
This is why I only buy Samsung
This TV is my update to my Family. It's been 7 years since I bought a new living room TV, in fact we still have the 46" inch LED and it will be moving to our bedroom. So far this TV is amazing. Great size , great picture quality, great wifi reach, and lots of features. It's almost like having a 60" inch tablet with all the features. If you're looking for a good clean update to your living room this is it. The design of this tv looks great in any living room. Movies look amazing and the colors just pop. You can adjust the brightness as always and more. I have always supported Samsung and have always been amazed by their products. My three year old's first tv is a Samsung and now my newborn's tv will be a samsung. I just have to go shopping for one after I pay this beast off.
Very nice TV
We bought this to replace a 9-year-old plasma set and are very happy with our purchase thus far. Great picture and extensive features. I am still playing around with the various settings, but I used some online suggestions to set the picture so it looks good. It connected easily and integrates well with my 6-year-old Blu-Ray home theater system even that is from another manufacturer. I'm still exploring all this set has to offer.
I have only had the TV for a couple of days. I replaced an old project with this TV in my media room. After looking at many reviews, I chose this TV and followed the advice of many to customize the screen to my location and right now am very happy with my purchase.
Tried to buy one for Christmas 2017 but they were out of stock. Am happy I kept an eye out for when it was available as in our opinion it is a great deal. Delivery was as advertised set up was easy and the picture and size is fantastic. If you are in the market we recommend you don't wait and miss out.
Good immage and sound the only problem is the picture will freeze a second and then continues.
I got this TV yesterday. It was very easy to set up & was up & running in 15 minutes with several adjustments. All was easy to do and I already love this TV. I have a 70" Sharp and this Samsung has a much more detailed picture than the Sharp. I'm very glad I bought this TV & highly recommend it to everyone.
love the tv overall
Bought tv with free shipping. That was the only downfall, shipping took forever and the box had damage. Was afraid to take delivery but i did.TV was not damaged and i love my new TV.
Awesome Price from Sam's Club,..!
I have the smaller sibling of this TV, bought it July 2015 for almost $5000 just for the 75 version, Sam's gave this one for almost half the price,... Awesome,...
Teething problems and fixes to them from a non-techy.
I've had the 75” Samsung 7100 for about four weeks now. This television is quite stunning and even after a month I am taken aback by how amazing the picture is. That is not to say everything went smoothly initially. I found other reviews helpful so thought I would add my experiences and more importantly how I overcame them. People had previously quoted other issues with apps and TV switching off but whether the firmware has been upgraded or something else, I have had no trace of anything like that. I had the following four issues: Audio synchronization Picture judder Getting apps like Netflix to play through the home theater system Glossy Screen I am not a technical geek and so I can't answer the technical questions but I can tell you how I got past these problems. First of all, my setup is cable (Comcast) directly into my TiVo DVR, HDMI connect to home theater system and HDMI connect from home theater system to TV. Audio Synchronization This did not become immediately apparent because it seemed to affect different channels differently which was confusing. I called Samsung who concluded that if some channels were worse than others then it is the cable company who needs to do a box reset. A Comcast engineer came out and spent an hour checking everything and actually did a good cleanup of our cable system under the house, replacing old pieces of cable, removing any kinks etc. This actually improved our internet speed but had no impact on the synchronization. This issue is actually caused by the audio being processed faster than the picture. The TV does have an audio delay setting in menu – sound- additional setting – audio delay. Unfortunately adjusting this had no impact. I then connected the TiVo directly to the TV and this removed the issue completely meaning the problem was in the home theatre's processing of the signals. The home theatre receiver also had an audio delay feature and adjusting that setting has 99% fixed the problem. The only thing not perfect is a few channels (BBC America, Discovery and HGTV) where there is still a slight although almost imperceptible delay. I cannot understand why these 3 channels would be different to all the others! Picture Judder In previous TV's I have had motion control issues where, when watching sports the picture could not smoothly follow the action. In this case, in normal programs, the picture would occasionally judder. The TV does have motion control feature, (there are a number of settings, including smooth). I tried them all with no solution but for whatever reason, turning motion control off solved the problem completely for normal TV and sports look just fine. Getting apps like Netflix to play through the home theater system. Although I normally watch all TV through TiVo, including Netflix, I found that the Netflix app on the TV is far superior. However, when I tried to use it, I got no sound from my home theater system, only from the TV itself. The answer is an optical audio cable from the TV to the home theater system. The main thing is, it works perfectly and it was a cheap fix but I thought that HDMI 2 cables were supposed to have addressed that so that you no longer need an optical cable. Glossy Screen I have a very bright sunny room, with the walls adjacent to and opposite the TV mostly glass. Previously I had specifically bought a matte LCD TV to deal with that (Sharp Equos) and it did. This TV has a glossy screen and no matter what the reviews say, the reflections are a big issue and one that was big enough to make me question my choice. I found out however that all current high performance sets have glossy screens. Some of the LG's and Sony's are slightly less glossy but nevertheless suffer from the same problem. No technical answer here but simple, relatively inexpensive blinds on the windows opposite the TV (the adjacent wall windows turned out not to be a problem) and the issue is gone. I preferred being able to watch TV without the blinds but it is a perfectly acceptable solution. If anybody has any ideas on the bits I don't understand, I would appreciate their input.
Clearly a TV that is not ready for PrimeTime
A feature that you would expect to be present and working right out of the box is Netflix. Not installed or available for Tizen at this time. (Despite the product description) TV is running latest Firmware (verified with Support for over 3 hours thru web and phone support) Tizen crashes constantly. My pointer for my remote REGULARLY will stop working. The fix is to hit the down arrow and magically it starts working again. Sound Connect to my 2015 Samsung wireless sound bar is completely non-functional (works perfectly against a 2014 HU8550 with the Samsung Smart Hub. There are features that say "Coming soon" Everywhere!!! This OS was released WAYYYY before it was ready. Samsung should be shipping these out with the old Smart HUB (a wonderful product). There are maybe 40 Apps in the App Store of which 2 are useful. Amazon and Hulu. Had last years HU8550 and it is a MUCH better cheaper product at this time 3/27/2015. I am sure in a years time Tizen will be useable, but for now it is lacking BIG TIME.
Soap Opera Effect Conquered...
This is an excellent TV. It is better than the 2014 model. The Movie/Cine mode is the best. Its enhanced contrast is terrific (with LED dimming giving more depth that other LED sets). Not really enough analog sockets for my old-legacy stuff that I still connect to the TV, though. Bought through Samsung because regional retailers were still only selling 2014 stuff. Not much fussing needed to get optimal picture, either.
For the price you simply can't go wrong.... I will admit the first day or two I was a bit disappointed with the picture quality, but I did a lot of reading online about the various (suggested) picture settings and combined what I learned to make my own version of what is perfect for me. Now I love everything about the picture quality. Spend some time getting to know to your TV, you'll never know what it's truly capable of until you do.
Pros: 4K content looks absolutely amazing... The new UI is very easy to navigate. All your favorite apps are at your fingertips and easy to access. Adding a soundbar or any other Samsung device to complete your home theatre is a breeze. One connect mini box helps keep wires and all sorts of clutter away from the TV. Changing any picture or sound settings is easy using the universal remote which is included.
Cons: This has been mentioned a lot, but a 6 foot power cable for a TV this size was obviously an oversight which Samsung will hopefully correct at some point soon.... Some of the more advanced features such as sound connect can be as bit buggy at times, but I used an HDMI cable from my soundbar which quickly resolved this and really made it non-issue for me personally. Not all the advanced features are going to work flawlessly, but I think that can be said about any brand TV. If you keep it simple, and enjoy the TV without many of the advanced bells and whistles, you won't be disappointed.
I own this TV for about a month now. Great display with preset picture settings and trying more custom ones. Last software update has fixed lots of problems. There's still an issue with Netflix app, when Samsung instant ON is enabled for quick start, Netfilx does not work properly. Love new remote with pointer : ) For the price of this TV, it should include 3D glasses with it.
I had an HU8550 that did everything well except for DLNA playback. Unfortunately, that's my major use for the TV, so Samsung just replaced it with the JU7100. Even though the series number is lower, this is the 2015 replacement for the 8550. So far, DLNA and broadcast TV is working great. Two issues with it so far, First, the app library is still quite limited. Netflix is still missing, and Amazon just arrived last night. I tried some 4K material from Amazon, and it looks like the app needs some fine tuning. The first time I played the 4K material, it took a few minutes but did reach 2160p. I tried again a few hours later, and it never went higher than 1080p. I have a 50Mbps DSL connection, so there's plenty of bandwidth. The other issue is minor, but still an irritant. I have the UHD hard drive pack, and the GUI for it is significantly inferior to the HU8550. On the HU, each video had a large icon and a information page before you select playback. On the JU, it is a simple list, identical to the DLNA video lists. It would be great if the information page was again available with the drive pack, and it would be wonderful if the DLNA media had the same thing. Maybe the standard doesn't support it, but it would be wonderful if the Audio Return Channel (ARC), which returns online audio back to my AV receiver via the HDMI cable, would send my HD audio in bitstream back to the AV receiver. I have a number of videos with Dolby TrueHD or DTS Master Audio, but only the lossy audio portion is sent to the receiver.

Unbelievable! Realistic color! Fabulous features. If you have any problems or issues you just go to Samsung.com and chat or call. They are there for you. They even have a Simulator to help you install. Just waiting to hear about my Netflix promotion confirmation to be verified .... would you believe .free Netflix for one full year!!!!!
