Kids Introduce to Robotics
I helped my son to build it and we had so much fun putting it together. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. It took us several hours to build it, and it turns out a great way to connect with him. I saw his huge interest of building stuff. He is very involved on following steps, looking for the right parts and work hard to make it work. He owns several robots and by far this is his favorite. He always plays with it. The robot is very intuitive and smart. So many things you can do from storing commands, telling a joke, interacting with it and more advance actions. He owns several robots and by far this is his favorite. He always plays with it. The robot is very intuitive and smart. So many things you can do from storing commands, telling a joke, interacting with it and more advance actions. He like the fact that he can just command the robot to sleep and saves the battery, press any button to wake him up. Overall, this is a great way for my son to explore and learn robotics. He is now thinking of rebuilding and making it a different figure.
This Little Robot is so much fun.
The Meccano Meccanoid G15 Robot is an awesome toy. My son and my husband enjoyed working together to build him, it took them 5 hours to complete his construction. The box he comes in has all the 600 parts separated into neat compartments. You will have to buy the 4 C batteries it requires separately.Once the 4 C batteries were put in and all of the Meccano Meccanoid parts and wires were in placed and hooked up, the Robot will do an interactive systems check with you. It was so funny because my husband had put a wire in the wrong place and the Robot kept saying something like “that's not right”. Then after a few more minutes it said “starting self destruct count down” and our son ran out the room. I laughed but I was about ready to run out the room myself. Of course it was a joke, you will find this little Robot has a lot of personality. After everything checked out the Robot was ready for play. Their is also a free down loadable App your child can use that is specifically for this Robot. The Robot is able to tell jokes, do a high five, dance, exercise and so much more. However the batteries didn't last the entire day and they were brand new. We went out then and got our son a battery charger and some rechargeable batteries which I would highly recommend for this toy. This such a great toy and it would make a great gift for any child 10 years old and older.
This robot is great! We just got this and the other maccanoid robot today and I couldn't believe how many pieces there is! It is not for people with no patience that's for sure. I got it for my daughter and I to have something to do together. We haven't gotten it put together yet but I'm so excited to see the finished product. I think we might have it done by Christmas time I hope. We plan to do a little here and there. Thankfully once you get so far the robot guides you through the rest of it. I'm not very good at putting things together but I figured if the robot talks me through it I can figure it out. It turns into other things besides a robot so we can play with this over and over. It's really big too so I think my daughter will love it being her size. I think it's worth every penny! You can pass this toy down from kid to kid and they would each get so much use out of it. This would make a wonderful Christmas gift! I wouldn't recommend it for really small kids because of all the small pieces included. I think even a teenager or adult would enjoy this.
Tedious build but well worth it. FANTASTIC TOY.
THE BUILD: FIRST ATTEMT After 1 1/2 hours, an adult who puts together the most involved lego sets, was extremely frustrated. It's very difficult to get those tiny little nuts and bolts into those tiny little spaces they belong in. Directions are clear, but not easy. The order of the materials in the box is horrible. No order to it at all as you would expect in a building set. Not at all like the most difficult legos. This is definitely not a put together set for the average 10 year old or adult. It is doable for a very determined 10 and up very mechanically minded individual. We are taking a break. SECOND ATTEMT After returning to the project, the first adult quit and admitted defeat. The second adult is attempting to take over the project. Responses are not positive so far. Definitely not a positive family bonding session yet. Second adult took a break after 2 hours of work. The problem with the first builder was her lack of experience putting together items with nuts and bolts and knowing how to use locking nuts, etc. This would be a perfect project for the right 10 year old or above. Need to love putting things together. We don't, but we will endure because we want the final result. Later, we were glad we did. FINAL POSITIVE ATTEMT After returning to this project, both the initial adult builder and her Dad, the build became much easier. A VERY GOOD family bonding session. Once they understood how to use the tools properly it became fun, just tedious and long. They were glad they did it together. Sooooo, any family that has experience building with tools and legos WILL enjoy this task. Our robot is now complete and we are proud of our work! PLAYING WITH THE ROBOT; THE FUN PART: Learning to interact with the robot is easy. He comes with a command list and he also provides directional help. So far he can high five, dance, tell a joke, exercise and move from commands like forward , backward, etc. and we have only played with him for 5 minutes. He is very, very cute. Worth the tedious build. I highly recommend him. I am looking forward to many hours of fun with him. He will be like another member of the family. I can't wait to connect my phone to him so he can use my camera and mimic my moves. He has voice recognition that works very well. This makes playing so much fun. We have so much more to learn about him and will play with him as often as we can! The best toy ever!
Meccano is his name!
With Christmas right around the corner we all are thinking about finding the perfect gift. My son started building on the robot right away. My son has always been good with Legos and building things. Although he didn't ask for Meccano I just knew he would love it and enjoy putting it together. He did have a little difficulty putting him together on his own. So yes a little parental help is a good idea. It comes all dismantled. It has instruction book that has pictures to help you a long to get the robot together. You need follow instructions word by word or you will have stuff upside down or back words. The only thing you might need that isn't in the box is a screwdriver and you will need three C batteries. When you get him built and put batteries in and turn him on he will go through a diagnostic test to see if everything is working correctly. We had an arm backwards. Ok fixed. Meccano is really cool you can do updates on your iPhone or hook him up to a computer. He talks, walks, dances, high five, whistles and much more Had us laughing. He also has a place in his chest to set your iPhone or iPod in without a case on it and he will interact with you and or mimic your movement. A fun toy for all kids. Age on the box says 10+. Just make sure you have enough batteries on hand. Im thinking about getting rechargeable batteries just for him. Although we have only played with him a few times so we still don't know everything he is capable of doing I know we will have years of fun with him. I can't wait to see what else he can do.
HOW COOL IS THIS ROBOT?!
This has GOT to be the coolest toy of the year! I received it as part of the Spark Reviewer Program, and I must say, IT IS AWESOME! IT took a little time to put together (about 5 hours), but once you get started putting the Meccanoid G15 together, he instantly comes alive! It's easy to finish him. The possibilities are endless as far as how you build him. We used the standard build that came in the box. The instructions are very well written and easy to understand. Most of it is repetitive because you have to build one thing for the left, then the same thing over again for the right. Once built, you have the capability of naming your robot. We chose Bob as it is easy to understand and easy for my youngest to say. You can program different movements also. We use the android App to connect "Bob" by Bluetooth and create new movements for him. You can change all kinds of stuff with the App - movements, sounds, lights, ect. Surprisingly, he is very responsive to our commands, and super easy to program new commands. It keeps us entertained for a while. He does need 4 C batteries to operate (and if you use it a lot, the batteries die rather quickly), so I'd advise to have some on hand. He is certainly a fun companion to keep around!
Amazing fun toy for all ages
I received this macccano robot from Walmart spark review to use and give honest reviews about, here is my experience. This robot comes unessambeld and a kid can build it with adult's help. There are 80+ steps to build his robot. And 600+ pieces and screws and stuff and they all were mixed, but in different bagies, What I did was (I already had ziplock for reusing purpose for toys like Lego etc) from step 1 to 80+ I put all pieces of each step including screws and bolt thingie in ziplocks and wrote number with permanent marker. I had to use 50+ ziplocks because some step didn't require any. and put back in the box so now we just had to put it together, it helped us to build it quickly without wasting time in finding next steps pieces and screws because they already were in next Baggie. it was really easy to assemble, if you follow he instructions but it was time consuming it took 2+ hours to assemble the whole thing. But it was worth it. You will have to have c 4 batteries to go with it. It picks the pitch and tone of person and record it you can name him of your choice also you can teach him your name, there are couple of menu options, in main menu, it tells joke, high fives walk with you surly not the stairs but just plain floor with or without carpet will work. About the jokes someone said he didn't repeat any joke, mine repeats his jokes over and over again. There Are only six or seven jokes recoded. In motion control he can walk forward backward turns around, dance, exercise, kungfu etc. it defiantly is a good toy, for Brain development too because it takes effort to build. If you don't talk to him he goes to sleep and your battery doesn't gets wasted. Oh and one more thing it changes his eye color so you can tell in whit menu he is in, for example main menu is green motion control is yellow settings is red etc. would defiantly recommend it.
Intricate building 'toy'
As a Walmart Spark Reviewer I selected this product to receive free in exchange for my honest review of it...here goes! I'm hesitant to start with the build part because it was a little glitchy and I don't want to scare anyone off with that since the end result was so very worth it! I would definitely do it all over again to get to the satisfaction of doing this project with my kids and building our very own, FUN, personal robot,...I feel like we gave birth to him lol I think it's best to start from the beginning: First impression upon opening the box, everything was neatly bagged and packed in seperate compartments, but seeing the shear amount of pieces to this robot in person was overwhelming although I knew to expect there would be 600 parts (to be fair, 195 of them are 1/2" bolts and 217 nuts). The instructions are mostly in pictures (which makes sense since it covers like 14 languanges) but the pictures are not always very clear to see on things like which exact hole you need to put a bolt in to attach two pieces, color of pieces aren't clearly distinguishable between black and grey, which was the top or bottom to face out/in, and one part was completely different in color design from the picture (turned out none of this really effected the turn out of our Meccanoid, Robby, even tho his legs are half black instead of his neck :). Do yourself a major favor- I wish now in hindsight we would've done- to save time and confusion... familiarize yourself with the parts first by doing an inventory of the parts against the super handy parts checklist! It would have been a great help at times if the part numbers from the part checklist were on the pieces for easy identification especially because we hadn't done the inventory. It would've been nice if the provided allen key tool came magnetized for ease of trying to pick up small bolts/nuts & holding bolts in place as you try to manipulate needing 3 fingers sometimes (we ended up slapping and rubbing the allen key on a strong magnet to give it some magnetic power). My 11 year old daughters' small fingers really came in handy in some tight places! A couple times I really needed a shorter allen key to reach a few tight spaces the regular one really couldn't fit to tighten properly. All in all, it took me and my two kids (son 14) just over 10 hours, over a two day period, to get to the part where you put in the batteries (which is pretty much the end of the build part :). Be sure to have FOUR fresh C batteries on hand before you get to this part- I thought I had batteries but they didn't work and we were so disappointed we had gotten to the exciting "PLAY" part only to have to wait to run out to the store for new batteries. "PLAY"! The moment we've been building for! It was so exciting to see his eyes light up (my son and Meccanoids :), he start moving and talking to us...success! The jokes were corny but kid appropriately funny. We had him dancing, exercising, and doing Kung Fu in a flash. Next, we had him go into 'Settings' and raise his volume so we could hear him better (we had a good laugh over his comment over this :) The kids wanted to do "everything" with him so we downloaded the Meccanoid App, turned on the Bluetooth, and started creating dance moves for him to perform for us, played 'Simon Says' with him,...we all had a great time thinking up things to make him do but there's still other things we haven't gotten to yet like "Ragdoll" that we are looking forward to. I think if you have an older child, like my son, who used to be a Lego fanatic but "out grew that phase", this is the perfect next step in continuing to nurture their building creativity in a more mature way they can have fun with and be proud of.
Great toy for children who like to discover
Pros: - What I love about this toy is it can be controlled either on the smartphone or via the smartphone's camera when I put on the belly's robot - The robot is quite tall, as tall as my Civic's tire - It has voice recognition - Fun preset moves - My kid is still a little bit too young to enjoy assembling the robot but 8 years old children who love to discover will enjoy this robot. At least my kid will enjoy disassembling it and changing its shape when older Cons: - Unfortunately, not all phones can control the robot according to the manual - It uses batteries not included. I wished it was included and rechargeable to avoid the hassle buying batteries - Parts are not "varied" leading to few shape possibilities - Takes too much time to assemble, I wished parts could be "clipped" together and taken out faster like Lego but not easily dismantled like Lego so that I can concentrate on making any desired shape. - Voice recognition seems not working well - This model can't move the head and fingers can't be controlled - Motor sound is annoying a little bit - This robot seems to have lots of potential uses but the app is a little bit limited
Great Project For Older Kids!
Upon receiving the Meccano Meccnoid G15 Robot, my daughters (ages 6 & 7) were excited to try and build it and play with it. This wish was short lived as we were completely lost. The instructions had plenty of illustrations but some of the most important pieces of information were either not clear enough to follow or not even listed. In any event, we ended up gifting the robot to our cousin who is much older and loved building it! Building it requires piecing 600+ pieces and 7-10 hours approximately. Once built, it has cool capabilities like voice recognition, 1000+ built in pre-programmed phrases, witty comments, telling jokes, etc. It's a great glimpse into the world of robotics. Once built, programming is easy... it has a built in Meccabrain which contains 64 megabits of flash memory allowing it to learn movements and record sounds that play back. It can be programmed in 3 ways: 1) You can move its arms or speak to it and it records what you're doing and repeats it back to you. 2) You can place your smart device into Meccanoid's chest, activate the Motion Capture feature and be amazed as Meccanoid mirrors your every action. or 3) You can swipe the on-screen Ragdoll avatar to make Meccanoid twist, turn or move any way you want. We didn't try to build it in Dinosaur mode yet but from what I read online, many of the features that work in Humanoid mode don't work in Dinosaur mode.

Weekend Long project
This is a kit that has ALOT of pieces. 600 pieces to be exact. I have an 11 year old boy and although some parts were easy to put together the arm joints became confusing so it took a while. We had to take the arms off both sides and re figure how they go back on. We also had the same issue with the feet. I didnt see in the instructions that one or the other was the right or left foot but it does make a difference once you go to plug it all in. These simple but yet HUGE mistakes took valuable time, However this time was WELL WORTH it! Lots of family time, laughing, joking and of course arguing as we put it together. I know I sure wont forget the construction as I am sure my 11 year old wont either. In the end and once construction was done this robot is AMAZING! My son has thanked me numerous times already for this robot. He is easy to use, takes walks, tells jokes, and will dance. You can also hook up with an app and use this way to. Voice detection is wonderful, I have the southern accent to my voice and it never had an issue recognizing my voice. All the pieces are well designed and all the holes line up how they should while putting together, I never ran across a piece not working cause the holes did not fit. This little robot has been a great addition to our home and I am so happy with the quality and design of this robot. I can not be any happier with the robot and honestly my daughter who is 9 is wanting one of her own which I may purchase for her. I received this robot thru the spark reviewer program for testing and reviewing purposes.
Welcome Home Pixel
We eagerly awaited the arrival of our robot and everyone was very happy the day that he arrived. We were all surprised at how big the kit was and how many pieces were included. Two of my boys, age 10 and 11 built him pretty much alone. It took them about 4+ hours over 2 days. My boys were very proud of their accomplishment as we all were. One complaint that my boys had was that there were not enough bolts which they thought here should be extra, to which I agreed. Once our Meccano was finally built he came to life. The boys named him Pixel. They downloaded the app and easily maneuvered him using it. They found it a little difficult giving him voice commands as it was almost that he couldn't hear them. I think this is a great product and is a perfect gift for some young builder. The sense of pride was amazing to see. I must admit that though that the price may deter some people from buying this. That's a pretty steep price for a robot that is mainly plastic.
Great For My 11 Year Old Son
The Meccano MeccaNoid G15 i am reviewing was assembled by my 11 year old son. Prior to building this robot, he has built numerous Lego sets to include the large Star Wars Death Destroyer and also enjoys using the Erector Sets; taking things built, re-configuring, and reassembling. I received this item free as a promotion from Meccano in return for this review. For those not familiar with the MeccaNoid G15, it is a two foot tall robot that requires assembly. The robot moves and interacts with the builder upon assembly completion, comes with voice recognition, and has iOS and Android apps available to enhance the interaction experience. This is a kit which requires assembly so the pieces come in sealed bags which are not resealable. Ziploc bags may come in handy to put pieces in if you arent certain your child can build this in one sitting. The pieces can also be placed back in the box but the box is deep with narrow compartments which would make it difficult to look in the box at the pieces without pulling them out; pieces will be on top of pieces making it difficult to identify what you are looking for. The kit comes with all pieces and hardware necessary with the exception of four 'C' batteries which you must supply. Compared to other types of sets, my son found the instructions for the MeccaNoid easier to follow than all other similar type of building sets. The instructions are multiple pages with numbered steps and illustrations. Along the way when screws are used, the manual will often have 1:1 size illustrations of the screw to be used so the builder does not get it mixed up and use the wrong hardware. The pieces being assembled are primarily plastic but does not have a cheap plastic look/feel to them. The screws and nuts are of course metal with the wheels having a rubber tread for optimum traction. The assembly process took my son approximately 5 hours from beginning to end, once again doing it for the most part on his own. He needed my assistance during the build has he had a screw/nut combination that wouldn't go together. Upon closer inspection I found the nut to not be threaded. My assistance was also needed at the end of the build, connecting the servo wires to the on-board computer. He was confused as to which servo connected to each connection point on the on-board computer. I reviewed the instructions and didnt see where they were not clear but did not that the illustration could have provided greater detail and perhaps the manufacturer could have made unique connector bodies for each and/or color coat each one so the builder can more easily identify where to plug them in. Overall, I have to give this product a top rating. It engaged my son very well, was appropriately designed for his age group, and came with sufficient documentation for my 11 year old to assemble with very little adult assistance.
First of all I received this product free to try and out and review. My first impression was that the Meccanoid G15 looks like an impressive gift. The box is well laid out with compartments for all the pieces..very handy. And here is a lot of pieces. It looked a bit daunting at first but once you get going its fairly basic. Meccanoid is put together using standard Meccano nuts and bolts. The required tools are included but if two people are building it you can use a standard Allen key wrench. The build time is long though, expect it to take several hours. You can speed things up by having more than one person working on the build. We divided the build over the weekend. My 10 year old son had a fairly easy time assembling with my help. There are a few extra pieces included in the kit in case you lose a bolt or screw which is nice. The robot feels solid considering it is built with plastic pieces. We drop it several times during the build with no traumas. We connected Meccanoid up according to the easy to read instructions ..We turned him on (wow is it cool!) and it ran through a series of tests it asks. The robot lights up and moves around realistically while its talking, making it seem more alive. We had to turn the volume up to maximum to hear the voice above the sound of the servos though as they are quite loud. There is a wide range of things he says and does.My son thought the jokes were super funny. the app was easily installed and gives the user even more fun things to try. With a hefty $220 price tag for this robot we're pretty impressed. There's a lot of good technology in here. The LIM technology works really well for recording movement of the arms and the voice recognition works well. The robot can be rebuilt to whatever your child imagines so it should provide many years of play. Overall I am quite impressed with it and would highly recommend this product for anyone who has a little engineer at home.
Fun but tricky to assemble
I received the Meccan Meccanoid free from Bzzagent. I was looking forward to receiving the product as I thought it would really appeal to my 12 year old son. The parts were packaged neatly and orderly in the box. Unfortunately the packages/parts weren't labeled and that made it a bit time consuming to find the required parts while building. There were 87 steps in the assembly process and it took an hour and a half to complete the first 7. Needless to say I was a bit worried about how long the entire building process would take. Once we got used to handling the small screws and bolts it was much easier but the entire building process took approximately 10-12 hours (not in a row thankfully!). Once assembled and programmed the Meccanoid was fun to play with. The kids enjoyed interacting with "Robbie", having him tell them jokes, dancing, etc. We haven't explored the downloadable app yet and hopefully that will lead to additional entertainment for the kids. It does drain the required C batteries so some type of chargeable battery would be recommended. I enjoyed building the robot, even though it took a long time, but my 12 year old soon became bored with the process. I feel the age 10+ rating would only be appropriate for kids who really enjoy and are adept at building things and who have an adult there to assist them.
Super Fun to Build
I got this robot as part of a promo for the brand to product test. I gave it to my 12 year old son (who loves to build especially with interlocking blocks) and he loved it. He sat at the kitchen table for 6 hrs straight and built Meccano all by himself. The robot is easy enough to build and the tools provided are simple and all you need. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. Once built Meccano is awesome to look at (reminds me of Johnny 5 from the movie Short Circuits! ) Mecanno has a great "personality". His programming is funny and witty and he does many different things that the kids love. I recommend this product to any kid who loves to build and create, great easy intro to robotics and who knows might set the kids on a future career path :)
Perfect for my kid!
I got this toy free because I'm a BzzAgent. My son was counting down the days for it to arrive as he had looked it up on line and was so excited to build it. We have used Meccano toys before. My son is 12 and he had it built in less than 6 hours - he did it himself from start to finish. At first he was disappointed that it was plastic because the other Meccano toys were metal, but now that it is done, he says it was smart to have it plastic because it is a very strong plastic, but it is light and less likely to damage the floors and walls as he is playing with it. Once it was built, the fun was starting him up and getting to know him! It was easy to control, very responsive - even for impatient children! The commands are easy to learn and remember. My son was able to use some of the more advanced features (LIM and app controlled) to make MeccaNoid even more entertaining for us. He tells jokes, does exercises, greets us, high fives, and shakes hands. With the LIM feature, he can do even more. We brought him to our family Thanksgiving dinner where MeccaNoid entertained kids from age 1-5. Even in a crowd, he was easy to control. This is a fantastic toy for the older kid who wants to independently create and control a robot, or for a younger child who can work with an adult.
My son has had a blast building this!!
My son just turned 12 and we were very lucky to receive this item free from Bzzagent. He had been watching the mail every day impatiently waiting for his robot. It arrived on Tuesday and we immediately began the build. He took about 4 hours total build time and reading the instructions and he was able to complete the robot himself. The only snag he hit was when a screw stripped and there were no extras for just in case. He has been working with the app on his iphone and has just loved this adventure. His age seems to be pretty accurate for ability to both build and enjoy this toy. This is a good gift for the "techie" boy in your life.
This was a really great robot. I really thought robots went out in the 80's because computers and video games made the need for a robot obsolete. Truth is, robots have really been uninteresting and behind the times. However, both my 8 year old and 13 year old really loved playing with this. First, they enjoyed putting it together. The material is very strong and of good quality. I would recommend this robot as it really is a different and innovative toy. It is educational and a well built product.
