I just needed a good phone
I just needed a good phone. I'm 62, think that Facebook and Twitter and all these apps are for the young folks...I could care less. This phone has good sound quality, is relatively straight-forward to use and does the job. The camera is nice to have and is good enough for my needs...which was basically a phone, at a good price that I could basically transfer my SIM card into and keep most of my contacts. The screen is decent sized and, again, meets my needs. For the price, you can't beat it!
Great phone for the money
A few months ago I was in the market for a new phone that I could use to make/receive calls and access the internet with. The Alcatel OneTouch Pop Astro for T-Mobile seemed to have everything that I was looking for, and its $64.88 price tag seemed to be too good of a deal to pass up; so, I bought the phone. One of the first things that I noticed about the phone was its call quality. Moreover, calls are often connected in HD meaning that the audio is very clear. Also, the phone's 4.5" screen is large enough for me to view web pages on without having to squint. Further, the screen and keyboard are also both large enough for me to type on without constantly hitting the wrong key. The 1.5 GHz quad core processor allows me to change screens as well as stream video very quickly and with very little lag time. The phone's (KitKat 4.4.4) operating system allows me to turn off undesired programs. More importantly, being able to turn them off has allowed me to pick up a little extra processing speed; which of course, I have no complaints about. So, whether someone is looking for a phone with great call quality or a phone to access the internet with, for $64.88, I don't think one can go wrong with the Alcatel One Touch Pop Astro.
Great phone for the price
I got this phone as a replacement because mine broke and I didn't want to spend a lot of money. I already had a T-Mobile account/plan, so I just plugged in my SIM card and installed all my apps. It's a very nice device and seems reliable, and at this price range it's a great option. It sometimes lags just slightly if I'm trying to do things quickly or multitasking, but it always catches up almost instantly and isn't really a big problem. Video streaming apps work fine. I bought a 32GB MicroSD card because the internal storage is very small.
Surprisingly capable budget smartphone
Pros: Superior call quality, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, Band 12 LTE, quad core processor, microSD card slot, excellent build quality and cellular reception. Cons: 4gb of internal storage, 1GB of ram, camera shutter lag, camera low-light performance is poor, phone gets relatively warm on calls. Screen is hard to see in bright sunlight. For price, this phone is a phenomenal value. Compared to the other phones in this price range, this is by far the best in terms of specs and build quality. I also grabbed a ZTE Obsidian to do some comparison, and the ZTE is definitely going back. The ZTE lacks VoLTE, HD-Voice, and the build quality overall screams "cheap". You'll have to move apps (that allow it) to the external microSD card slot if you want to free up your internal storage for other internal-only apps. This is a minor annoyance for me, but could be overhelming for someone who isn't comfortable navigating the settings menu. Overall, this is a great budget phone that does all the basics and low-intensity apps very well. Music, web browsing, navigation, yelp, uber/lyft, skype, texting, and phone calls run perfectly on this device.
I enjoy this item. It wotks well, has a pretty advanced camera and features, for the price. I also enjoy T-Mobile plans so this is a purchase I'm pleased with :-)
Very good budget friendly mobil phone
Purchased this phone recently on Wal Mart's Family Plan and I am impressed with what you get for $65. You will not find a quad core 4G LTE phone with 1080 HD video and 4.5" screen for this price. The unit runs smoothly from app to app, installs are quick, as well as screen to screen changes and loading. Netflix, Youtube, Spotify and Prime have run very good with no glitches. This is a very good entry level phone with some upgraded features for its price, great for teens or those who don't need what came out yesterday on the market. Since its new cases are becoming available now, as well as other accessories. The only drawback is low light pictures or video are not impressive, but is capable in normal picture mode.
HOW TO USE DIRECTIONS
lOVE IT BUT I AM 75 Need better detailed directions. Suggestions: 1) Descrbe what assumed terms mean ( like sim card, memory, etc.) Ditection sheet is too small typeface, Icons too small to see in directions. Just not written with enough details. A inexperienced cuatomer is embarrased to go to Walmart and have them do everything for them. Why not a video to show customer how to set up the phone and use it. You'd save money because the salesman wouldn't have to spend so much time with you while others wait in line. Your salesmen in Walmart 32119 zip code are wonderful.
Would have been a great phone
Bought this phone for my daughter about 3 months ago. She takes very good care of her electronics. One day it stopped charging. The internal charger port that you plug the wall charger into broke. There is a piece of it that you can see looking inside of it that is messed up. Of course I did not purchase any extended coverage on the phone. My BIG mistake. Like I said this would have been a great phone.
Storage is a joke!!!!
It claims there is 4gb of storage but that's a laugh!!!!! It says I have 1.80 GB of storage and with all the pre installed apps I only have 250mb of space left??? I also inserted an SD card for more storage space and switched the storage to the SD card and it STILL says there is not enough space!!!!!! I downloaded one game and now I can't even so much as take a picture!!!! I even deleted 12 pictures to have space to take 1 and it says insufficient storage!!!! This is the WORST phone I have ever owned and I am returning it today!!!
***DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE*** I just purchased this phone on birthday and will be returning it tomorrow. It didn't even last a week! It freezes...over heats...slow charging..fast depletion...Alcatel should go to making calculators and leave the phone business to others...seriously. I gave them a try...and they failed miserably. It says it runs off of KitKat 4.4.4.....oooooookkkkkkkaaaaayyyyyyy...more like Jellybean 1.1.1. Anyways...dont buy...just save your money and buy a better phone...
Returned within a week
This is the worst phone I have ever bought that is a prepaid phone. 1. Slow performance, insufficient storage (30 contacts in my phone was too much storage for this phone) 2. Horrible camera (extremely blurry and hard to capture a still picture) 3. Within a week it was turning on and off, deleting some of my contacts, rearranging icons...weird. 3. Graphics were horrible and not up to par for a $68 phone. Don't get me wrong, t mobile is a great carrier I wouldn't leave them but this phone had too many problems, so if you're looking for sufficient storage and a great phone don't buy this. If you are new with smartphones and just need it to make calls, I guess - give it a try!
Cheap turns out expensive
Me and my dad both bought this phone and we experience the same type of issues with both of them: The good: Design looks good for its price, Image quality and sound. My dad likes it because the screen is big. Takes average-good pictures. The bad: Very low memory space and is a struggle to add a memory card because the internal system has issues reading memory cards. Mine works perfect with WIFI but my dads doesn't. A lot of internal system issues. Slow phones. Sometimes I want to take a picture and camera wont start. It sows a message "can not start camera at this time" so I have to reset it to work. Is just the worst phone I've ever had. Now I am here reading comments to try to find 2 new GOOD phones because we are tired of ours. ALCATEL doesn't have 24 technical Customer Service so is a problem following a complaint. Say NO to this phone.
New Cell Phone
We were having problems with our old smart phones. Dropped calls, poor reception and unreliable data service. At first we thought it was the T-Mobile network, but we found out that our phones were the source of the problem. I purchased two of these (one for me, and one for my wife) and we have been extremely pleased with the sound quality and the data reception is better than we've ever experienced.
Great phone for the price
This is the third alcatel pop astro that I have purchased in a year's time. I, my daughter, and now my son-in-law each have one. It is a great little phone for the price. Good screen size, sharp picture, all the bells and whistles i need but I am a novice android user. My son-in-law is a gamer and is looking forward to playing when out and about and my daughter uses her to check sales on her etsy shop and post photo's. Daughter wants an Apple 6 but they are $800. This will do for now.
For kids only
I got this phone for a replacement to another alcatel I had and I'm now sorry I did. Giving the fact that I had to return my other one several times before getting one that worked should have told me something. This one is nice and the camera is an upgrade. It's a lot faster as well. On the flip side the back key, home key and menu key is not working when I touch it. There is a 20 sec delay before it will light up and work. It is very hot on the back of the phone where the sim and sd card is located. Other than that its fine. I'm taking it back tomorrow not sure if I will get the same one or not. Good price point for kids
Much better than expected! I like this phone!
Based on other reviews I had my doubts about this phone. I'm purchasing for my 9 year old and did not want to spend a fortune but he is an avid gamer and will use Skype, Netflix and such so I needed a decent phone without spending big $$ as it is his 1st phone and he may misplace the phone at anytime. We have T-Mobil Postpaid service and are able to add a line for $10 a month. This phone was much less expensive at Walmart than going direct. I was told by T-Mobil I would need to purchase a postpaid sim card for $16 to make this phone work on our postpaid plan but I found that that was not needed at all, The sim card included in this box worked perfect with our regular postpaid plan! When opening the box I was impressed with the packaging. The phone looks like a Galaxy to my eye, has a good solid feel when holding the phone. When deciding on this phone I gave lots of thought about adding just a bit more money to get a better phone but decided to give this one a chance based on several facts. This phone is a bit newer that then some others so I was assured it will do what is needed to give me the beast call quality as well as 4G LTE speed on the T-Mobil system. The quad processor in this phone operates at 1.5 GHz when the direct competition runs in the 1.0 to 1.2 GHz range. I was concerned that this phone only has 4GB of internal storage as others have 8GB. I added a 32 GB card and all is well. This camera has a fixed focus lens when the competition has a better focusing lens The camera is not my 9 year olds 1st priority. This phone has full 1080 video when the competition has 720 so that was a plus for me. I like that this phone has a removable battery when my iPhone does not. I decided that a faster processor with better video playback, removable battery for less money than the competition was the deciding factor for me. I'm a iPhone guy and never had experience with Android but after spending time with this phone I can say I like it! The op system with this phone is smooth, fast, everything loads quickly, I honestly can't find a problem with this phone. Some reviews complain of the phone getting hot a freezing... My son used this phone for 6 hrs straight and never got hot and is cool when charging as well. I find the T-mobil voice over internet feature works well with this phone and I have better T-Mobil signal than I do with my iPhone sitting side by side. All in all I am impressed with this phone. The phone has a fit and finish that just does not feel cheep! If it holds up I will be able to 100% recommend this phone as I simply cannot find anything wrong with it. I LIKE IT!
Do not buy this
I recently purchased this phone it has bad memory also after two months of having it the play store app stopped working then my phone overheats to the point you can smell the burn smell. It has low storage I wouldn't recommend this phone
DOESN'T WORK IN MY LOCATION
I've really had it with this turkey!
If your actual phone suddenly stops being present or usable and you only have $50 to get a new one that very day, get this. It is reasonably reliable for calls and texts. Everything else, not-so. The camera, the volume, the memory (even with extra backup) the charging, the durability, and the ease of use both in the phone itself and while linked to a computer, are all poop. Poop, I say! I'm waiting for it to finally just stop working so I can justify buying a new unit. And I can't say I am not getting a little satisfaction by... uh, HELPing it to its end here and there, when I can. I'm the till-the-wheels-come-off kind of phone user so I won't toss it til it's literal trash but, honestly, I'm sort of looking forward to turning its smashed pieces into a necklace like one might see a tribal person wearing the bones of their enemy after a battle. Summary: Get this if you need it but don't expect a lot and don't make long term plans with it. You'll be disappointed.
love my celphone
I like this phone. I got it to use with my vonage service and it work. Its easy to use. I can add a memory card to it. as to how much it depend on card, so far it 16GB I want to go as high as 64 GB. plus I can use usb flash drive. I'm testing every type of storage I have. but be careful the will reject some storage so don't force it. it mess up your device. I hope me and this device get alone. device and don't get alone to well. I work it like a horse in a big open field. ha! HA! HA!
