EASY TO USE AND INSTALL FOR THE DYI
I have been using it for almost a year and I like it very much. I have the Wink hub and it works seamlessly with that as well. I also like the fact that you can program multiple codes for the kids to use, etc. And let's not forget how fun it is to show your friends how you can lock and unlock your door remotely.
have this product for over 3 years, I love it, I set the alarm system overtime I lock the door and turns it off when I unlock the door, I can give a code to a friend when out of town and change it when i'm back, don't have to give an alarm code.
I bought this to automate my front door after extensive research. I found this to be a well recommended lock and the cost was very reasonable. It has performed well and the installation was pretty easy. It works relatively well with the smart things hub. I would recommend this to anyone just beginning to start home automation. Easy to Install - Convenient to Use
Many exterior doors. All with their own individual keys. Gets to be frustrating, confusing. With the KWIKSET 910 no hassle with the eternal questions of where is the key? Or Which key fits this lock? Issue a code. Bingo...you're through! And IF all else fails, yes, you still can use the key (once you find it).
Great product even better customer service
Love this product. Integrated into my home security system flawlessly. When the security company messed the original ones up, kwikset replaced mine under warranty no questions asked. Best customer service I've ever seen!! New ones went in fine because I installed them and didn't let the security company try.
like it overall
had this for about a year, goes through batteries fast, doesn't matter if they are alkaline of lithium. tech support has said both, but the latest is only use alkaline. wish it has a auto lock feature you could access without taking off the cover for when company comes. I like it without keys but you still have to hide a key in case your batteries are dead.
Works well with Smartthings
I have two units, and one was a bit problematic to start where batteries would drain within a month. Two replacement units were sent, and the second finally solved the issue and has worked extremely well. Long story short - if your batteries are lasting less than 6 months (I've been using NiMH rechargeables since Nov without recharging them) contact support and let them know. Otherwise, having my doors auto lock/unlock based on whether we're home or not is killer, and remote unlock for when friends or neighbors need to get in while we're away is equally excellent.
I bought this lock for two reasons. First I wanted a lock that I could change the entry code remotely and the Smart Key feature means that I do not have to have yet another key to tote around. The only reason that I do not rate this lock excellent is there is no way to keep someone from inside from changing the unlock code if they really wanted to. Other wise the lock works perfectly.
We love the feature of never needing a key and also of being able to create codes for others when needed. We have four of these devices and have found their performance to be inconsistent regarding battery life we have returned two of the devices but are now having the same problem with a third unit, formerly our best performing unit. For the most part, we get approximately one year of service on the four batteries before they have to be changed out. We have now had three units that fail (run down the batteries) after only ten to fifteen uses. The most recent one to run into problems is the one we use on our garage. It had always been our best unit but, over the past few months, its performance has fallen sharply. We've been told that we may not use rechargeable batteries in these units. We end up going through a lot of batteries having four units. We've tried different brands of batteries which seems to make no difference. We want to change the one out on our garage for something better but not sure what to look at and these units are not inexpensive.
Great features, average quality.
I used this product for just over a year, after which the electronic pad stopped working out of nowhere. The features were great i.e. remote unlock, temporary passcodes for friends, notification emails on door unlock etc. Cons: The battery usage is quite high but that may have been due to high traffic as well. However, the electronic pad died just after the warranty period. I don't believe you can buy a replacement number pad alone. The cover on the inside of the door is made of plastic. The lock knob feels a bit flimsy too and doesn't inspire confidence in build quality.
After 2 years: Better than alternatives
I've owned two of theses for about two years. They were the first of several zwave devices for a home control system. Battery life is ok, but the locks/doors aren't used too often because we usually use the gagrage to enter the house. The reason I couldn't give them a higher rating is because the bolt action is not smooth and sometimes sticks half way making it difficult to use manually. This may be a sign of a short life due to internal parts not meshing as designed.
Works when it wants to
I purchased this lock several months ago, so I have had time to really see what it can do. It was exactly what I needed at the price I wanted but it works on and off. The first couple months after I got it, it wouldn't read a signal or unlock the door it took replacing the battery almost immediately to correct the issue.
Quick Installation & great features!!
I had this lock to replace my backdoor deadbolt and it did exactly what I was expecting. The installation was very well documented and easy to complete in just a few minutes. I had ADT Pulse and the definition within the system was very straight forward without no problem - at the time, Kwikset was the only lock supported by ADT, which gave me confidence to consider it a reliable option. The only point to consider is that the batteries (4xAA) don't last more than 6-8 weeks. I had disabled some light notificaton options to avoid extensive battery consumption, but still short battery life. The good thing is that ADT Pulse let me know when it starts having problems to sync with the lock... then it is time to change batteries. For the rest ,this s a great option for a keyless electronic lock.
Excellent replacement Front Door lock!!!
First, I don't need to use my key to lock it from the outside. Second, if forgot to lock it, it automatically locked by itself as long as the door is close. Third, if I forgot my key, I can always enter the correct code (as long as you don't forget) to unlock it. Lastly, for the last 4+ months I'm very satisfied, hope it will last for a while. Thanks.
Ties in well with Frontpoint
We bought this about 3 years ago and have loved the convenience of locking/unlocking from our phone and alarm system. The batteries last quite a while (we normally lock and unlock via the deadbolt throw) and it doesn't look bad at all inside or out. It doesn't get any weather on it as it is from the garage into the mudroom. All in all, a great little lock.
Love the electronic codes and wi-fi technology
We have enjoyed our Kwikset lock with wireless technology and bought two other Kwikset locks for other outside doors that look the same but do not have the wireless technology. We had to replace the lock after 10 months due to a programming issue, but customer service was quick to diagnose the problem and send a new lock under warranty. With future upgrades, I would love to be able to maintain the list of codes by wi-fi instead of having to add them physically at the door. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I own 3 of these locks, one of which is installed at our main point of entry and is used several times a day. Based on my original research, about 2 years ago, these were the best z-wave locks available. I did not want a touch screen, I did want Z-wave, and I wanted it to look good. This lock uses real buttons, although only 5 of them which does significantly reduce the security but this was not a major concern for me. It uses a secure Z-wave connection that is reliable. It does not look nearly as good as the Kevo, but I would never buy the Kevo for other reasons. This lock does look significantly better than many of its competitors. When paired with a Vera controller there is virtually no limit to the number of codes that can be stored/used. Overall I am happy with my purchase(s) but there are a few things that I wish were different. These locks go through batteries fairly quickly; I replace the main locks batteries every 3-4 months (I actually record the dates). I wouldn't expect better performance from any deadbolt lock. The only way to significantly improve performance would be to either make it hardwired or use a handle type lock where the dead bolt is held in place by a movable locking pin and the deadbolt itself is moved by the handle (the user). The locks are fairly large on the inside and recognizable on the outside. I wish there was a lock that looked like the Kevo but wasn't crippled by a subscription based model. Bought two of these, one I have not had to change batteries, the other one changed 4 times because for no reason after a month the keys flash red and it starts beeping for about 15 seconds, then it works OK, then it will do it again and agai about a week apart. Does it with new batteries or old. I love the locks, but one is frustrating!
Convenient, reliable and secure!
I love this lock. It was so easy to install, and allows me to lock and unlock my door (and other three Kwikset locks) from my phone through my querky wink hub. You can also key in a combination to get in which is go great for our kids. Not only that, since it works with wink, I have it in a robot setting that auto locks this door at night when I go to bed, and auto locks whenever I've left the lock open for more than 30 minutes. You can program it however you want. It's beautiful and works flawlessly all the time. Can't say enough good about it. I own this, and three other Kwikset zwave locks, and love them all. We bought the deadbolt so our 7 year old could come in and out of the house without having to leave the front door unlocked (and keep the neighborhood kids from coming in unannounced!) It also allows us to give temporary codes for pet sitting when we're gone. We like that we can get into the house even if we don't have keys.
