I bought this for me nephews 2nd birthday. I was a little bit worried about what the build quality would be like, but it turned out to be ok. The car itself looks amazing as the pictures. There are a couple of things I didn't like about it though, and people should probably be aware of before purchasing.
1. I was buying this because of the remote feature. I don't like the fact that it is a button, in my nephews reach (beside the shifter), to enable and disable remote control and adjust the speed. The buttons aren't very hard to push down either.
2. The shifter to go between forward and reverse seems pretty flimsy. No issues with it so far, but have only played with the car a couple of times yet. Hoping there are no issues in the future.
3. I don't like that when in remote mode, my nephew can still control the steering wheel if he decides to grab it and turn it. But I'm guessing most of the vehicles that have the remote mode would be similar unless they had some sort of electronic steering that can be locked out.
4. I love that there is an aux port to connect an MP3 player (and it sounds pretty decent too), but there is nowhere to actually store the MP3 player. Luckily I am using an iPod shuffle so it is light enough that I can just let it hang off the wire without doing any damage to the aux cable.
These aren't major issues once he has learned to operate the vehicle himself. Was more of an issue because it's the winter and I am driving him around inside the house in remote mode.
I will say though that I love the ability to switch between 6V & 12V. Can't use 12V in the house because there isn't enough room. Have to stick to 6V. Also, at 6V it will be easier for nephew to learn to drive it, but having the ability to switch to 12V once he has the hang of things is awesome cuz he will be able to play with it for years.
Again, I would like to reiterate, if you are buying this car for a 3+ year old to play with outside (or in a house with tons of open space) I don't think any of the issues are actual issues. Just think my nephew may be just a little bit young yet. Won't be a problem once the summer rolls around.
