For the cost of this drive, having that much space available for use is a plus.
Because of the nature of the drive, some might be intimidated with it, unless they have a geek friend. In this I mean, the drive comes unformatted, and un-partitioned. This requires using the System Manager tools to create the petition/partitions, then formatting it/them.
I used the drive in single partition mode, as my computer can handle it. (some systems can't handle over 3 terabytes), which allows me ample space to use it as a backup for all my computers.
Great product. Quiet stays cool
Other than coming as a bare drive with no mounting hardware or SATA cable, this hdd was the best bang for my buck at the time (mid-Dec '14)-- $147 at the time. It has an impressive write speed around 50 gb/s both from my main OS SSD & from my Caviar Black 1TB back-up drive. Compared to my last 1TB hdd mentioned above, this drive would have cost over $350 if bought at the same time. Even with other brands of large capacity drives for a few dollars less, my experience with Western Digital certainly swayed me here; Plus, I am still quite happy with my old 2TB green drive.
I installed it in 5 min, it does not come with a cable so had to use my DVD cable, and bought one later. the format on windows 7 should be GPL so it recognize the 4 TB, by default windows only sees 2TB and 1TB
so far working good in my system
The only problem I had is that there were no mounting screws or cable shipped with the hard drive. Fortunately I had some laying around the house.
I suspect it was left out during packaging as the cable is necessary.
