I can not say enough good things about this rifle, the only draw back is the lack of scope mounts, buy them when you get your rifle or make another trip to the store. When new, until brass builds on the underside of the bolt chambering rounds is a little grainy, let the brass built and it's butter smooth. Most important accuracy, I've seen rifles that cost 5X more shoot worse with great ammo. My barrel is not broke in yet and on a calm day I can cover a 3 shot group from 100 yards with a nickel, and a quarter at 200-250 yards using Federal Gold Medal Match 168 gr Never shoot cheap ammo out of it, only 25 rounds of gold medal, bore sighted by looking through the barrel with a vice, fired 1 round, adjusted and every other shot was dead on, all most boring to sight in. Used ballistic software to calculate drop past 100 yards, dead on. Recoil, I use my F-250 tail gait as a bench rest in my field, girl friend said the entire truck moves and it weighs all most 5 tons but it has all most no felt recoil on the shoulder due to the 2 inch thick neoprene pad, it moves a little but nothing like I expected. LOUD, I have never shot a rifle that is as loud as this thing, it makes my 7.62x54 Russian Nagant sound like a 22 mag. my neighbors came by thinking I had bought a canon and wanted to see it. It's a little bit heavy for hunting but it's very accurate.
the model 10 is superb.it is the perfect firearm for thinskinned big game animals as well as varmints. the accutrigger is everything it is touted to be. would recomend this rifle to anyone willing to pack around 10 to 12 pounds (outfitted with mounts, scope, sling, bipod etc.
You cannot find a better value in a rifle. The out of the box accuracy is nearly unbelievable. The rifle is impressive, built well and cycles very smoothly when compared with major competition. The only weakness this particular gun has is that the factory synthetic stock can flex in the foregrip when fired causing it to contact the barrel and possibly effect accuracy. There are many aftermarket options for stocks. I put a new stock on it and am shooting sub m.o.a. groups with an "affordable" 8x25x50 optic. I have met several shooters- since buying this gun- that shoot F-Class (over 1000yds) with this rifle and are actually winning some competitions against .338's(that cost well over $3K). Winning requires excellent shooting skills-but the gun is more than capable of the task. The Accutrigger has it critics, but the adjustability is great. I have mine dialed down to 1.75lbs and can adjust it in 2 minutes or less if ever needed-very simple mechanism. Any others would have to be sent to a gunsmith, which would cost you more money and downtime without your rifle. Accutrigger is awesome!
Savage has really turned their business around in the past few years and they are manufacturing a top percentile rifle. There may be "better" rifles out there-but you will never find one that shoots this well for this amount of $$.
I searched the web and many local gun stores including some of the very large national chains and Wal-Mart has the best price with fast, friendly service. Buy it-you won't regret it.
