Our 16 by 18 ft bedroom at 95 F was cooled to 72F in 5-6 hours. A little noisy, but I snugged the 10-11 screws on the back and the noise diminished by 80%. I bought a second unit for another bedroom immediately and it also needed snuggging of the screws to stop the cabinet rattle. A nuisance but this portable WORKS. It's a powerful alternative to window units or whole house AC. I recommend this unit as it does not ruin your woodwork to install it.

The unit produces very cold air - about 25 degrees cooler than the ambient temp in the room. That is where the pros end. Even on its lowest fan setting it is much louder than a window unit. However the real problem is that the unit sucks outside air into the house. While the dual hose system is supposed to only suck in air to cool the condensor and then expel that hot air out the other hose, that is not what happens. I immediately noticed that the unit created a negative vacuum in the room that it was in: In was expelling more air than it was taking in via the intake hose. A call to Whynter customer service confirmed that this was normal operation. While sucking in a little outside air would have been ok, it is very conterproductive on a 95 degree day out! The Walmart return experience went very well.

Good and cold. It's very small which is what I need for my small bedroom. Setup wasn't too hard and its noise level is acceptable. I think it's quite a good air conditioner.

HIGH pitch noise after 3 weeks

I did a lot of research - dual hose, as compact as possible, minimal appearance. I found this one and it was the cheapest option for what I wanted to pay (although I recommend Walmart's extended warranty because actual warranty for product is just 1 year). Last night I couldn't sleep due to this new noise. I put the air conditioner on fan and decided to be hot for the night. So I woke up this morning and read in the manual the noise I am hearing is perfectly normal ... quotes from the manual: "The compressor may make a pulsating or high-pitched sound." Let me tell you, it's SO ANNOYING. I'd rather hear a loud vibrating condenser instead of a high pitch pulse!!!! Otherwise we love it.
