Having evicted Time-Warner, I wanted a multi-channel equivalent of a DVR that I could use with Over-The-Air (OTA) television. This Tivo with its four-channel input seemed ideal -- until it arrived and I found out it won't receive OTA, only cable. And even on cable it seemed to require some kind of on-going monthly fee to operate. If I wanted that I could have stuck with Time-Warner! The only good thing I can say about it is that Walmart's no-problem return policy is unexcelled. The TIVO supplier should do a better job describing suitable uses. I have turned instead to a dual-tuner TV input card plus an HDMI output card for my PC, which work great for a lot less money.

Tivo is not good with Charter Cable

We bought a Tivo Roamio at Walmart to replace the Charter DVR. When we asked about cable compatibility, the Walmart employee couldn't say much. Well, we found that we lost on-demand and caller ID, and had recurring loss of some channels. RESET! We found that the 2 extra recording channels were not really needed and the $15 monthly fee wiped out any savings from the cable DVR. After canceling and paying a $75 charge, Tivo sent that to a collection agency! Two phone calls has not fixed it yet. Get all the facts before buying a Tivo.
