Carefully examine the rod and reel before buying.... Several rods were damaged and several reels were damaged... Walmart had six on hand. The staff let me switch the rods and reels so I went home with an un-damaged pair. That being said, this combo is excellent for all around fishing of every style. Topwater- i can cast a mile with 5/8 ounce lures like frogs and walk the dog types because of the guides and reel design. Works walk the dog lures and poppers pefectly. Excellent action with frogs and buzzbaits as well. The tip is sensitive and fast enough to feel the pressure and set the hook at the right time, increasing hook ups. Spinners and crankbaits- cast them a mile and feel the difference between strikes and cover when reeling back in. Use 1.5's or bigger, its a little took stiff for 1.0's. Soft plastics and jigs- as long as it has some weight to it, you're good. Again, little too stiff for smaller un-weighted platics. Works senko style baits 6 or 7" with ease and feel the hits... tic, tic, BOOM! Casts jigs with precision and you will feel the hits. All in all, this is an amazing combo that is priced below value. You have to give it to Walmart, Quantum, and KVD teaming up for this product.
I was really suprosed when i first tried this rod and reel out. Casting is great and very smooth and casts a long way with the 10 ballbearing sysyem. Rob is great appears to have a fast action tip. Caught a 3lb bass on it. Fish hit it hard and had no problem realling the fish in. Thinking about buying another for the $$$
higher price but the quality is worth the price
this is a great combo very smooth now bought my second
When I cast lighter lures such as 4" worms the line backs up at the first guide causing a god aweful mess. I called Quantum and they offered me a less expensive rod to replace it if I would send it to them. My last Quantum anything. I do not know how you guys live with the guides being this small on a spinning rod. I am using 10lb. spiderwire as I do on all my reels. The rod action is great but cannot live with the birds nests.
