This is a captivating documentary that follows a hard-luck, inner-city Memphis high school football team, whose unexpected success starts to make believers in a town that has all but written them off. The relationship between the coach and his players transcends the confines of the football field. It's a compelling coming-of-age piece where players and coaches deal with the ups and downs of daily life and ultimately discover the hidden blessings that flow from working together. It's all at once funny, inspiring, sobering and troubling, but all is made right at the film's extraordinary end. I give it four stars, which may well be unfair, because it falls short of Friday Night Lights, the greatest high school football film ever, IMHO.
