I was happy right out of the box. I have zero issues and it runs faster than I hoped. I did replace the 750 gig hdd with a SSD, and with some restore magic, it was up and running. My boot time is around 4 to 5 seconds. The light up keyboard is a lot more solid than I would have expected. It is well constructed and lights up perfectly. The fan boost makes the laptop cold to the touch on the bottom. The screen is fantastic with beautiful color and works great in any light enviroment. Windows 8 was something to get used to, but I find after I have loaded a few programs and pictures that it became more useful. If you're looking for a gaming laptop, then this is it. It is super fast. The only thing is to make sure the game you are playing is using the Nvidia card, as there are two video cards on this. This was not an issue, as the desktop runs perfectly on the intel 4000 that is there.
I must say the 128 GB SSD is amazing at bootup and the 16GB of RAM running the i7 is a new standard for me. Yes I could have purchased something cheaper but I want to have something that would at least last 6 years. I originally wanted the Dell XPS12 but by the time I got it configured it was almost $2k and I don't think I'll be using the touchscreen much.
Great expectations were quickly dashed just a few days into ownership. I had some experience with Win 8...enough to know that I would quickly convert the MSI over to Win 7 which proved problematic. I added a ssd to load Win 7 on and planned to use the existing hdd with Win 8 for storage...at least that was the initial plan.
Be advised that there are little to no drivers available that are compatible with this MSI and a Win 7 OS. There are no drivers available for the 670MX video card. Out of the box the turbo function would not work, nor was I ever able to make it function. There is nothing available in the way of support from MSI making the OS swap.
Performance of the MSI out of the box was perhaps the most disappointing aspect and was quite unexpected given the hardware of the laptop. The culprit must be the Win 8 OS...I have a Toshiba Qosmio i5 that just blows the MSI out of the water in almost every way...heck, come to think of it I have a Acer netbook that is faster than this MSI. Nearly everything it was tasked with like downloading, updating or just loading pages was painfully slow. Not at all what I envisioned when I bought it.
Overall a poor product and experience. On the bright side I must give credit to Walmart for their excellent service and painless exchange/refund services.
