I bought this stereo for my 2003 Ford F-150 crew can! I also bought a Dual 4 channel amp, and 4 Kicker 6 by 8 door speakers all from Walmart! The stereo sounds awesome! Works and sounds much better than I expected! I would buy annother in a second if I needed one! Awesome stereo for the money! Ray
I've been upgrading my stereo in my work truck and in recent months have replaced everything - amps and speakers included but had been disappointed in the sound, even after buying some nice JL and Focal speakers. I never thought the head unit could make so much difference, and waited till the last to upgrade it. I had a Sony unit that I had thought was decent, but this Kenwood brought out the frequencies I was missing, added clarity, separation and presence. 25 years ago I used Kenwood head units but had been away for a while. I am most assuredly back. My system sounds awesome, this receiver LOOKS awesome and didn't break the bank. To think this is just the entry level of their current line is impressive indeed. Highly recommended. The only issue I had was a missing owner's manual in the box, but that was a quick download.
I've owned this Kenwood for 3 months and think it's a great head unit for anyone that wants something that's economically priced, puts out good sound and has a few customizable features such as screen color, contrast and brightness. Its got plenty of power to run aftermarket speakers and preamp outs on the back for subs. Only negative I've found is that the screen is sometimes hard to read in the daytime, regardless of screen color or contrast I choose. If you have a convertible this unit might not be for you. That being said I really enjoy the Kenwood KDC-400U even with that display issue and would buy it again without hesitation. And for under $150 you can't go wrong.
