I saw this 40" HDTV by TCL on walmart.com with a price of $319, about the cheapest I'd seen anywhere for a HDTV with similar specs. It has the features I was looking for: full 1080p resolution, 2 HDMI connections, PC connection, and USB connection (for JPEG photos and other media).
But I never heard of the brand TCL, and there were no reviews on the website. So I googled "reviews of TCL HDTV", and the first hit that came up was a review of this very model on cnet.com, dated 10/10/12. To my surprise, the reviewer highly recommended this model as one of the best budget TV's he'd seen, rating it "very good" (3 and a half stars out of 5). For those of you who are familiar with cnet.com, that's a surprisingly good rating for a cheap TV. Turns out, TCL is the biggest brand in China, but is not well known in the USA. Here's the link to the cnet.com review: http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/tcl-l40fhdp60/4505-6482_7-35454675.html
So I bought the TV, free shipping to the Walmart store of my choice, arrived sooner than expected.
I'm totally happy with the product. The picture quality is excellent, very bright and sharp, and good colors (the cnet reviewer complained of a bluish color cast, but I don't notice it on my TV).
I highly recommend this TV!
