I saw this 40" HDTV by TCL on walmart.com with a price of $319, about the cheapest I'd seen anywhere for a HDTV with similar specs. It has the features I was looking for: full 1080p resolution, 2 HDMI connections, PC connection, and USB connection (for JPEG photos and other media).
But I never heard of the brand TCL, and there were no reviews on the website. So I googled "reviews of TCL HDTV", and the first hit that came up was a review of this very model on cnet.com, dated 10/10/12. To my surprise, the reviewer highly recommended this model as one of the best budget TV's he'd seen, rating it "very good" (3 and a half stars out of 5). For those of you who are familiar with cnet.com, that's a surprisingly good rating for a cheap TV. Turns out, TCL is the biggest brand in China, but is not well known in the USA. Here's the link to the cnet.com review: http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/tcl-l40fhdp60/4505-6482_7-35454675.html
So I bought the TV, free shipping to the Walmart store of my choice, arrived sooner than expected.
I'm totally happy with the product. The picture quality is excellent, very bright and sharp, and good colors (the cnet reviewer complained of a bluish color cast, but I don't notice it on my TV).
I highly recommend this TV!
I've only had this TV a couple of weeks. It performs well and looks good. It does everything it claims it can do. Set up was easy.
I picked this up last March and paid $300 for it then. I chose this brand and model after much research. I literally looked at every 40inch plasma and lcd i could find locally. As well as everything in the $3-$400 range. The biggest factors in going with it were the positive reviews and that it supposedly had a samsung panel. Not knowing anything about the manufacturer i was just a bit uneasy in buying it. As a rule i don't buy tvs sight unseen but the reviews online were nearly all positive. Combined with the possible samsung panel i took a chance on it. Im very happy i did. I verified that the panel IS in fact a samsung as soon as i set it up. The picture quality is the best you will find in a $300 lcd/plasma hands down. Even when i had it hooked up straight to cable the picture was very nice. When i connected it to the cable box and checked out the HD channels the picture was excellent. The sound is typical of a flat panel. Very little bass and doesnt exactly knock your socks off. No better or worse than anything in this price range. I have no qualms what so ever in recommending this product. As a matter of fact I will be picking up another as a gift this christmas. At this price you cant go wrong.
So far so good, Have had this TV for a year now with no problems at all.
Had this set in our lodge for 2 months now with no problems. It was great to find an LED unit for this price, and WONDERFUL to find one that would fit our 36" cabinet.
I bought this TV last year for Christmas and have no regrets. Great picture, good sound.
