I Love This Brand of Cotton. Been buying for Years. The Quality is Excellent
I have not used the Bernat yarns that I purchased, yet. I chose the creamcycle, robin egg blue and the pinks. The colors (especially the robin egg blue) was not quite as deep/bright as represented in the picture as I thought would be. But I am pleased with the amount of yarn in the skein. I have been using Sugar 'N Cream, so I am eager to see how the Bernat works up.
Most affordable, Local, Excellent integrity
Cheapest and easiest cotton to find, a pleasure to work with, especially when it's important for the project to keep its shape. Ideal for luxurious throws! They turn out heavy, with a nice drape and are very warm. I used the shade Queen Anne's Lace to create an individual crochet throw in crocodile stitch. Machine wash and dry only makes it softer and every stitch remains in its place, making this yarn suitable for frequent wash items (coasters, pot holders/dividers, dishrags, toys, rugs) but it is too thick for clothing items. A pound of cotton under $10 is a great buy, I always stock up even when I don't have a single project in mind.
better than other cotton yarns
I have been crocheting for years, i have used all different brands of cotton yarn for dishcloths. Bernat yarn is by far one of the nicest. Being able to buy multiple colors is great. I hope walmart brings it into the store to buy, not just online.
Convenience of buying yarn on-line!
For a crocheter with a project in mind, being able to buy the correct yarn, correct amount and color of choice is great! As most Walmart shoppers know, the stock of popular craft items available in the store is a chancy matter. So to be able to order just what you want and getting them in a couple of days is definitely a good thing. I have found that the in-store only items are priced better, but their availability is hit or miss -- basically in my opinion it is a good thing to be able to order yarns either delivered to the store or home.
Nice yarn in lots of colors
Will continue to buy this yarn . Wish they had lots more peaches and cream in cones and small balls.
A great find
I hate buying yarn in small amounts. The large number of ounces per roll was perfect. The 14 oz came at a great price. Wide assortment of colors.
Just what I needed to finish my project!
Having started two (baby dedication) outfits for our twin granddaughters due this April, I could see I was not going to have enough to finish...2 dresses, 2 pair ballet shoes and 2 bonnets. I had already begun using the remainder of a skein of a previously purchased Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Yarn (14 oz.). This is not easy yarn to find, I came to discover and the price I paid for the first one ($6) on clearance at a Walmart in NC was a bargain, besides. I was so grateful to find it here and the 99-cent shipping charge brought an added sigh of relief. I bought white and although it was a different dye lot, it was so close that any difference in shade is totally unnoticeable. This yarn works up nicely, giving "body" to all three pieces (x's two!) without being stiff. I used an "H" hook for the dresses and hats and an "F" for the shoes. It tends to split at times so be careful of this. Worsted cotton, in general, is a bit heavy for larger garments so I would only use this yarn for smaller items or use larger hooks/knitting needles to reduce the weight of the garment. FOR LIGHT COLORS: be sure to wash your hands frequently. We might appreciate the absorbancy of cotton but not when it absorbs the oils from our hands and the dirt that follows. As added protection, I keep my yarn and project in a plastic bag(s) in my your tote/carryall until complete.
Lovely colour combos
I love this cotton yarn to make bags
I have purchased overt 30 balls of Bernat Handicrafter knitting cotton in the past couple of months and while I normally love it, I've been very disappointed to find that most of the balls have joins (knots) in them - one ball had SIX - not impressed! this requires cutting out the knot and splicing the yarn at every break. There should be something on the wrapper saying it has breaks - like computer paper does - or it should be marked down. Maybe you should have your machines checked if you are getting this many breaks. I will continue using the product only because I haven't found any that compares, but I'm not happy about the 'quality control',
Best deal around.
Love for making washcloths. Minimal shrinkage and great selection of colours. Can't beat the price. Cheaper than buying at Michaels and Lens Mill Store.
I find these big balls of Bernat cotton if the colours are dark they stain my hands and my needles and I'm unable to mix dark colours with lighter colours as the colours bleed into each other
I recently purchased this cotton yarn online for a very cheap price. The quality is super, colours were delivered as ordered, and the shipping was super fast.My only problem with this yarn is that it was a bit small , only 68 yards.Overall, good product for a cheap price!
Perfect for my purpose...to crochet dish cloths
Great for the price...and there is so much of it.
Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Big Ball Yarn
only product I know of to use in making knitted dish clothes. wouldn't buy anything else.
Easy to order
It was simply, fast and easy to order online, delivered when was advised and came packaged well. I will do it again and I definitely recommend it. Thanks Walmart.
Bernat Handicrafter Yarn
I love using the cotton for all my baby blankets. I buy the bigger skeins to have no starts in the middle. Had too many knots inside the skein. Disappointed
Not colour-fast...so sad.
I'd planned to donate dishcloths and thought the bright colours would be fun. Unfortunately the 25 st x 7 st swatch turned a sinkful of warm, soapy watera dark blue/green. Not once or twice as maybe expected, but many times. Oh well, I'll stick to the lighter shades, I guess.
I have purchased four different colours of this product and I am very pleased with all of them. The colours were almost exactly as I saw on the photographs (I purchased Damask Ombre, Earth Ombre, Tudor Ombre, and Country Red). It is easy to knit with and a great quality cotton yarn.
I used the yarn to crochet my friend a bag to carry her oxygen canister in -- she's gotten lots of comments on the beautiful colours (I used Beach Ball Ombre).
The yarn knits up fast, due to its bulkiness. However, it is not as soft as it used to be. My hands and fingers were all raw at the end of each day from the yarn rubbing against my skin. It also feels like there is something in the yarn that is "prickly", and often felt like I was getting slivers in my fingers when pulling up a length of yarn. But unless I want to pay for Organic yarn, Bernat is the best and cheapest cotton yarn around -- so I continued using it.
