I decided to change the gravel in my fish tank to a more natural color so I purchased several bags of this gravel at our local WalMart. I washed it thoroughly and placed it into my existing 40 gallon tropical fish tank. It looked very nice, but after a week, while doing regular water testing, I noticed that the pH had risen from 6.8 to 7.8+. Rising pH has never been a problem in this tank before, so I tested my tap water first (it was 6.6) then did a water change and adjusted the pH to 6.8. Several days later I tested again, only to find that pH was back over 7.8. I did some research and found that others who had used this gravel were having the same problem, so I decided to run a test. I took 1 cup of the gravel out of the tank, placed it into a quart of fresh water measuring 6.6 pH and waited several days. Result: the test water was now over 7.8. Lovely gravel, but unless you require high alkalinity in your tank, I cannot recommend it.
