Does not heat well. Only turned a good steak a light brown-ish steamed looking color after 40 minutes at highest setting. Heat maximum with one steak in unit was 325 degrees - very cool for a BBQ. I compared the heat per unit area of this BBQ with a highly rated propane BBQ, and the propane BBQ has 2.6 times more BTUs per square inch. i.e., 52 BTUs per square inch for propane, and 20 BTUs per square inch for this electric grill.
I have a little indoor electric grill, the kind that clamps onto a steak like a clam, and it cooks a steak to a crispy brown on the outside and medium rare on the inside, in six minutes. I will use it inside, and use my new very highly rated propane grill outside. The bad news is that the propane grill is over twice the price, but the great news is the rating is almost a perfect five!
Oh, FYI, the grill I'm buying is cheaper at Walmart than any other source, by a lot! One big box store sells it for 56 percent more than Walmart. And, as usual, the shipping to my store is free.
At the expense of sounding like a Walmart marketeer, I applaud the ease at which I was able to return the electric BBQ. It was a gift, an still, no questions asked...
