If you use plastic balls in this machine it will throw them about 15-20 feet and look just like an underhand pitch. My 3 year old boy and 5 year old girl can both hit on it and the ball is consistently in the same spot. If you put a real baseball in it, it throws a soft toss type of pitch. I originally purchased a Franklin pitching machine, but it was very inconsistent on location. I spent the extra $20 on this machine and have zero regrets. I absolutely recommend this machine for any age.
Works surprisingly well with dimpled pitching machine balls for independent soft toss. If planning to use with whiffle balls, make sure you have a uniform set or you'll get an inconsistent spray. I wouldn't treat it roughly as it's not too ruggged, but it works well for the intended purpose and is good value for the money.
I purchased this for my son to be able to practice without the help of his father or me. We used the baseballs that were recommended, did not try it with the whiffle balls . First we had to put a small wire in to hold the basket in place. The feed worked for maybe the first 5 balls but then the last three would not fall and pitch correctly. It became more of a pain than it was worth. Decided to return it rather than it sitting in the garage. For hitting practice I would recommend the SKLZ Zip N-Hit. This product does work well!
I ordered this product for daughters birthday. Payed the extra shipping so we could get it before her birthday. Got it in time for bday but it was missing pieces so needless to say my daughter was very dissapointed. I contacted Walmart and they sent the pieces that was missing a week later. I am not real thrilled about the quality of the product but I guess you get what you pay for.
Works great with regular baseballs for a lot of backyard fun!
Great training tool that is very easy to use.
I was very disappointed in this product. I returned it a week after purchase. I read the other reviews and decided to buy for myself.
In theory it should work. I never got to that point.
When I screwed one of the side legs in it offered an odd fit. I tried to unscrew it and the screw was stripped immediately and never had a proper fit. This is a hand tightened leg...so it wasn't rocket science. Maybe it was a production flaw but it was frustrating and then the little plastic piece that holds the ball holder in snapped. I even tried propping it up on some wood to elevate the pitches. I feel like I wasted a few hours playing with it and with very mixed results so I returned.
If they tweaked the design a little this could be a very good product but this current one was a dud.
