i was a little worried that 2.5 lbs would be too heavy for me, but it was fine. I did get a bruise above my hip when I first used it (and relearning how to use it, as it has been years since I had last hula hooped), but after a week or so of using it for about 10-15 minutes a day, I got used to it and it didn't hurt after that. You may have bruising and/or soreness if you haven't done anything like that for a while (or at all), but definitely take breaks if it gets to be too much for you...that's what I did until I got used to it. Also, you need a lot of room to use this hula hoop as well (since it's 39" in diameter, or a little over 3 feet)! I don't know about this DVD everyone is mentioning, since there was no DVD in the box, just the hula hoop (although I didn't really mind since I don't usually watch those anyways). The hula hoop was really easy to put together (just snap in the pieces one by one), and the price and 2.5 lbs weight is great too for those of you who are just starting out weighted hula hoops. Good luck!
