The mat that comes with this game requires a GameCube controller port. While the original Wii consoles have these ports and support Gamecube games, the newer Wii consoles sold, since they lowered the price, no longer have these ports and do not support GameCube games, hence, the lower price.
DDR II can still be played using the Wii remote and nunchck, but the mat will not connect to the console. If you have a newer Wii console, consider purchasing just the game itself without the mat and settle for playing with the Wii remote and nunchuck.
This item is meant for older wiis ones that are compatable with using game cube devices. from what i can tell none of the newer can do that
We really enjoy this game. I had to purchase another game pad so I could play with my daughter. But the rest of the family loves the music so they all just join in. We get a great workout also.
I really LOVE these games, ALL of the DDR games are fun and are always a GREAT value. I had my Wii for a year and it was great until something happened and it got bricked, so we got a new Wii and were about to play DDR when we found out...OH NO! The new wiis aren't gamecube compatible. So I went searching online and got my wii finally unbricked with...Wouldn't you know it THE GAMECUBE controller. Anyways the game is REALLY fun and is great for losing weight slowly but surely! I love how one player can play one difficulty while another can play an easier or harder difficulty. What's also great about these games is that the mats are somewhat easy to transport, if you fold them back up the way you got them in the box they eventually flatten out and you can take them almost ANYWHERE! (If you have room) The mats are also good at sticking to the ground and not moving when you do the jumps and the harder levels. On the bottom of the mats they have a sort of silicon rubber that helps keep it planted to the ground. If you have a flat carpet with no bumps or anything it will slide though, not to much and it isn't to noticeable until you finish dancing to the song you just were because your feet move with it. Over all this is a great game! It has a neat feature in the beginning when you put the disc in for the very first time where you can choose to unlock everything yourself or already have it unlocked. Also for the people new to DDR it has some really easy to follow tutorials. They start out easy and gradually work your way up to the harder stuff like jumps and crossing. Most of the songs in the beginning (If you choose to unlock everything yourself) are pop songs or older 60s-80s songs. Once you start to unlock songs and dancers and costumes you get more of the cool techno music that is REALLY fun to dance to! And even when you unlock those songs you can still play them on the easiest setting or the hardest setting. Some of the songs have an extra level setting that is EVEN HARDER then the hardest setting on most of the songs. This game is really fun and I hope you will take the time and money unfortunately ) to get this great game. The price is a little on the high side but keep in mind you get a mat along with the game. And let me tell you it is worth it! My mom even loves playing this with me when she comes over, she has lost weight playing this game. I definitely recommend this game for kids and adults of almost every age. If your kids are to small to play on the mat give them the wii remote or a gamecube controller and let them have just as much fun as you!
