this gave me a slap in the face, concerning our judicial system. at that time (just after the civil war), a person in mary's place was tried by a military court not a civil court. things have changed over the years, but the railroading of a person all the way to the gallows is a chilling thought.
yes, the country was in mourning. but, hanging someone without sufficient evidence? this is a must have for anyone's collection, whether you like history or not!
