I love Susan Mallery's Fool's Gold series so much I couldn't even begin to pick my favorite. This book has so many laugh out loud moments, my sides hurt when I finally put the book down. You have to love a book that starts out... "Never agree to a job interview in which the interviewer has seen you naked." Nevada wants to branch out from the family business and applies for a job with a new construction company and finds out that it's her old love who broke her heart. What to do? She really wants this job, yet she really doesn't want her heart broken again. The women in Susan's books are always strong, not simpering whining females, and I really love that about her books. The women in Fool's Gold are all strong, competent women, so it's fun to watch them stand up to the men. In this final book of this summer's trilogy, Nevada and Tucker must overcome a past, even when that past comes back to town. There are several subplots that add a lot of depth to this series and the town as a whole. We've been wanting to know about Jo and hoping for Denise to get her HEA. Several hilarious situations made me laugh until my sides hurt. I will never hear the word "armadillo" without laughing again! I can't wait until next year for the cowboys coming to town!!
Wedding bells are ringing in Fools Gold, but not for Nevada Hendrix. Her triplet sisters are engaged, and even her mother has a more active love life than she does. Determined to make a fresh start, she applies for her dream job, only to discover that her new boss is her first love. Maybe she could overlook the fact that they’ve seen each other naked, but she’ll never forget the way he broke her heart. “Only His” is the sixth book in Susan Mallery’s Fools Gold series and the third in the Hendrix sister’s trilogy. With Nevada Hendrix looking to take control of her life and pursue her dream, she soon finds that one thing is true: Never agree to a job interview in which the interviewer has seen you naked. Enter Tucker Janack, the new head of Janack Construction and the biggest stumbling block to Nevada getting her dream job. It isn’t that Tucker is blocking Nevada from achieving that dream, it’s just that she is having a hard time facing Tucker. This book has all the makings of a great reunion romance but Susan Mallery puts a really unique twist on the whole thing and you’ll find yourself laughing out loud one minute, and sighing with satisfaction the next. “Only His” is a great conclusion to the “only” trilogy and a great addition to the Fools Gold series. You’ll not only get the satisfaction of a great contemporary romance, but you’ll get some answers to some interesting stories that have been happening around Fools Gold.
Susan Mallery has said that when she pitched Only His to her publisher, the publisher was initially hesitant about the key humorous piece - a two-word phrase. Ever since reading that, I was dying of curiosity about that phrase. Was it the opening sentence? "Never agree to a job interview in which the interviewer has seen you naked." Nope - too many words. The scene on page 123 and our heroine's reaction to it? Maybe. I'm hooked - gotta keep reading! Could it be the "feral cows" on page 137 - no...the publisher wouldn't hesitate over that, would she? The scene on page 230 and our heroine's reaction to it? Quite possibly! Can't go to sleep now, this book is great! OMG! Page 241 - this MUST be it! And a hundred pages left to find out how this plays out! WHEE!!! As always, Susan Mallery delivers great characters that I truly care about. She also introduces new people that I hope will be featured in her future Fool's Gold books. Only His was filled with humor, inspiring smiles and laughter. A great way to end this trilogy...with giggles and hope for more!
While the first two books in this summer's Fools Gold trilogy were heartwarming and a little heartbreaking at times, Nevada Hendrix story in Only His is pure comedic gold. It brings out the laughs to go along with the love and the usual cast of Fools Gold characters who also make their appearances. Long time Fools Gold fans will be happy to learn more about mysterious bartender Jo and see her shot at happily ever after, but the true crux of the story lies with Nevada Hendrix and Tucker Janack, a wonderfully matched pair. Their relationship has a unique history and a charming present that will keep readers turning pages until the end to find out just how they get their own HEA.
