Definitely 5 stars!!
The BEST from Journey for a long time! Much better than their prior release Revelation. Classic album. I can't decide right now which one is the best track, all songs are GREAT!... And may I add, the new singer is beyond awesome!!
Great, Rocking Music
Laying aside prejudices, this is a 'must buy' for old and new Journey peeps and Gleeks. I've been playing it from start to finish trying to find out which would be my favorite of all...BUT I do love them all, with their varying melodies, dark and edgy, but holding on to the message of love, hope, and peace, amazing riffs, drums, keyboards, AND soaring vocals. Awesome. I give it a 10 out of 10.
Journey stakes out new artistic territory
I knew this album was going to be a departure from their previous recent efforts. Ever since Perry had left the band, Journey was struggling to find a new "voice", instead trying to find a replacement for the legendary Perry. But with Arnel Pineda, they've got a bona fide new voice that can take the band beyond its tried and true formula of the past and into new artistic territory. After such a long history of success basically following the same musical formulas, I applaud the band for staking out new artistic territory. I also think that this is the rockin' album that Neal Schon has wanted to make with Journey for a long time. It's sonically rich with his playing, while Jonathan Cain's keyboards are more of a background embellishment on most songs. You have to listen to this album a few times to really appreciate it, since it's quite a departure from the usual Journey formula, but the rewards are rich and point to a promising artistic future for this long-lived classic rock institution.
Great ROCK record
I've been listening to this album front to back for a couple days now and lovin' it. I'm a long time Journey fan and this album really showcases the musicianship in this band. It's also an album and not just a couple singles with some filler. I still can't decide which are my favorite songs yet. If you're a Journey fan who's favorite album in Raised on Radio, this might not be a album you will appreciate as this is a ROCK album and not pop, but give it a listen it might change your mind!
Hard Edged Journey
I've always perferred the rockin' Journey over the sappy ballads. Wheel in the Sky was the first song I heard and why I fell in love with Journey. I could tolerate the slow stuff but I will take this style cd hands down. Arnel's voice and passion has improved and the rest of the band as you know need no improvement! Shon is King..............GREAT CD!!!
No Skipping Songs Here
The first time I listened to the CD I was surprised. It wasn't what I expected. The more times I listened to the CD the more I liked it. Then the truth came when I listened to it in my car and found myself not skipping songs like I normally do on almost every CD I own. This made me realized how great the whole album is. Different it is. But it's a great album. I love Journey and can't wait for their concert in ATL. I have to learn all these songs so I can sing along with them at the concert!!! Keep on rocking guys!!! I love Arnel and Neal they have amazing talents.
Great ROCK CD
This is the best rock CD that I have heard in a very long time. If you are looking for pop hits, do not bother. When was the last time there was a rock hit song anyway? Those days are gone. Eclipse really shows how talented Journey is. This is a great modern rock CD. The songs and performances are all top notch. That was a good way to spend ten bucks.
Journey rocks! Best Journey in years.
Eclipse is the best Journey CD in years, the best since Frontiers and stacks up to just about any Journey Album in my collection. There are some new twists and turns and a couple unexplored sounds on here for a Journey recording but this is a band that is definately not phoning it in this late in their careers. Eclipse is a huge sounding effort and has too many musical layers to even touch on here. Arnel Pineda's soaring vocals echo Neal Schon's singing guitar and the multi- layered keyboards fill in spaces and make the recording sound huge! Deen Castronovo's drums are punishing and drive the music along with Ross Valory's bass lines providing the ever present "motor" for the band. This is at times not your father's Journey and at others very old school Journey. There are a couple songs that could have easily been on a pre-Escape Album and others that are, for lack of a better term, a new Journey sound. Big sound, intense guitar, soaring vocals, great lyrics and a great effort. I give ECLIPSE a 9 out of 10. Highly Recomended!
Not your typical Journey.
If you are a fan of the softer side of Journey this may or may not be your cup of tea. True fans of a band allow the artists to do their thing and support them. I love this record. It is a rock record that still retains the melodic sensibilities that Journey is famous for. There is no doubt that Neal Schon wanted to rock and got his wishes. His guitar is all over this record and his playing is as good as ever. Arnel is a great singer and his vocals are up front and melodic. This music will go over well in the live setting. If you're still hung up on Steve Perry not being in the band, 15 years now, you still have your greatest hits cd. If you want to hear a great, melodic hard rock record from a band looking to move forward then this is certainly it. Way to go Neal.
It is a rocker, as they promised. I was leery about buying it because of this, but luckily I found some previews before it came out since Wal-Mart won't post any for some reason. The only problems I have with it (I'd actually give it a 3 1/2, but you can't do that here) are the accessibility of the songs (some of the endings have very neat sounds to it, but in 5-6 1/2 minute songs they are hard to get to). The other would be kind of a feeling that the band really has lost touch in a way with the audience that buys the CDs; yeah, you can say "we're doing our thing, and people may not like it", but when you're saying it about people who have been loyal to you by buying your CDs, it changes things. In a way (even though I like the sound of the album), imho, they should have released an edited Eclipse and an Extended Eclipse (that would mimick the current one. Off my opinions and back to the album... one more thing I noticed is a few of the songs, lyrically, have an issue with not being very tied together (as in they throw a lot of ideas tied to the title, but past that they are not related). The mixing is a lot better than their last two albums, and the songs flow from one to another, which hasn't happened for a while. The Journey sound is still in the songs, but unless you have listened to all their albums (pre-SP to present) you may not realize it. Favorite songs: Anything is Possible, She's A Mystery, Ritual, Someone; the music but not the lyrics to Tantra.
Excellent album from Journey. It has edge and still kept the signature Journey sound. You can really tell that these guys are masters of their craft. In this day in age of autotunes and protools , it's really cool to hear artist like Journey doing it the old fashion way ...pure talent !
I had read the reviews prior to getting the CD, and although I am SLIGHTLY dissapointed that there aren't any ballads, the CD is absolutely fabulous! The ones who said the more you listen to it, the more you like it are right. There are so many feelings brought out by listening to this CD, feeling of HOPE, LOVE, and PEACE in this crazy world. I know it sounds crazy that a ROCK CD can bring about these feelings but it DOES! I will be listening to ALL songs on this one for a long time to come. No skipping through tracks either! It is a DEFINITE MUST BUY!
WOW!!!! My favorites are Resonare, chain of love,Tantra ,to whom it my concern...and the gem of this cd in my opinion is the last 90 seconds of shes a mystery.....if they could rerecord and shorten this song and add a little more of that ending parts..this song would be a monster.......
Bought this album after listening to "City of Hope". Loved their last album, "Revelation". Revelation, to me, was a fantastic album, bringing back memories of "Perry's" Journey. Arnel does a wonderful job in his singing role and has been a great replacement to lead Journey on. Eclipse is a departure from the "Perry" Journey. It's more of a rocker. When I listened to the album the 1st time, I couldn't decide whether I liked it or not. It's been in my car cd player and the songs have really grown on me. If you love listening to heavy drums, listen to Human Feel...love to crank it up and feel its beat. Overall a great album and worth having. Just remember...it rocks. If your expecting ballads, you'll be disappointed. Favorites: City of Hope, Human Feel, Resonate, Anything is Possible, and Someone.
CLASSIC ALBUM 1
I NEVER GET TIRED LISTENING TO THIS ALBUM... BEEN PLAYING IT AT LEAST 3 TIMES A DAY FOR 2 WEEKS NOW! IT'S THE NEW JOURNEY SOUND... REVITALIZED! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! 5-STARS!
This is the best Journey album ever. My favorate tracks are City of Hope, Tantra and To Whom It May Concern.
Bla bla bla bla, The best since 1984. Until steve p. and gregg r. return it doesn't get better than this.
I love this CD. Neal's guitar and AP's soulful, soaring vocals are beyond amazing. City of Love, Edge of the Moment, Chain of Love, Resonate, Tantra, and To Whom it May Concern are my favorites. This is Journey at a different level. Great job!!!!
Outstanding - Finest Hard Rock Album of All
If you expected the repeat of "Revelation" then you may be disappointed - I wasn't. This is, I believe, made with totally different mind set and emphasis. The focus here is not how many of these songs will be aired on the radio, but it is rather Journey's bold statement, which was beautifully delivered with confidence. I don't hesitate to say that "Eclipse" is one of the finest hard rock album of all. It showcases what the most gifted/talented musicians in the history are capable of. The sound is heavier, richer, and really addicting. What also made me excited was the stunning transition of Arnel. In this album, you will no longer sense him being haunted by Steve Perry. No offense to Steve fans - I liked him as well...but Arnel simply blew my mind. His range, strength, passion - totally amazing. And now he is finally his own man. I truly admire and appreciate Journey's guts and confidence to be different and keep trying something new. It must not be easy to leave the numerous success behind to do this. But I believe that is exactly what makes Journey unique and stand out from the crowd. Their success is always "now." I would love to personally thank Journey members for the creation of Eclipse. I am thrilled to see the albums like this in the future again. Outstanding job, Journey!
Nice new album from Journey
I was pleasantly surprised by this album. If you are A fan of Journey, then you will want to add this one to your collection.
